I’d like to spend about £20 to £25 on each of them.
I can’t ask those closest for ideas unfortunately.
What is popular at the moment?
Thanks.

For DH's nieces and nephews I usually look at wicked uncle.com for ideas. You can filter by age and gender and it suggests suitable presents which you can buy there or source elsewhere. It doesnt show branded things though but more arty/creative/scientific toys. I find it useful to get ideas

stridesy · 16/12/2019 06:35

Exploding kittens game
Puff ball game
Guiness book of records book
New wimpy kid book

I might be a bit wary of Lego as my 10 year old son has grown out of it.

reefedsail · 16/12/2019 06:43

Unless you know them well I think I'd go amazon vouchers for both. They are ages when children are very different. Some are still 'young' and into toys, others are 'tweens' and into clothes and gadgets.

reefedsail · 16/12/2019 06:44

The present my 9yo is most looking forward to getting is a extension cord with USB sockets in it. Confused

ihatethecold · 16/12/2019 07:19

Thank you everyone.
They don’t get much parental input so sciency or technical presents won’t get used.

The boy loves books and nature. He loves creating things like a farmyard with lots of bits from different sets.
For example we would create a train track that had a farm yard around it. Add in a few little cars and tractors.

The girl likes tat apparently Confused
We haven’t seen them in a year and I know kids grow and change so much.

Where they live is small and overcrowded, they share a small bedroom so space is limited.

What about a magazine subscription?

DonPablo · 16/12/2019 16:02

Dobble to play together and then a ten pound amazon voucher each. Dobble is bloody brilliant.

ihatethecold · 16/12/2019 19:38

Dobble. I’ve not heard of that. I’m going to look it up.

So simple and yet so difficult. There are a number of ways to play. We take ours everywhere with us. You can also get different sets, like a Harry Potter version and a kids version. But we just play regular dobble (kids 7 to 14).
We gift it at every opportunity!

SkaterGrrrrl · 16/12/2019 22:43

The 9 yr old girls I know are into:

Harry Potter
Slime
Lego
Horrible Histories
Minecraft
Books: The 13 Story Tree House, Dave Pigeon, Dog Man and Tom Gates books
Science kits
Friendship bracelets

mamaduckbone · 16/12/2019 23:20

My 10 year old boy would like Lego, clothes (skateboard t-shirts specifically), paint markers or other art supplies and daft games like exploding kittens (this year's is 'throw throw burrito')
He's got very specific tastes though...generic presents are starting to get hard at this age.

Poetryinaction · 17/12/2019 06:08

I have 5 nieces and nephews rhat age.
They have asked for
Subscription to Kids National Geographric
A joke book
Saltwater car
Amazon vouchers
Book
Light box with letters

ihatethecold · 17/12/2019 06:15

Thanks everyone
So far I’ve got them a Lego set each. Lots of ideas for a second present.

Must look up exploding kittens. Xmas Grin

Amazon vouchers. A big part of the present at this age is the selection process online and waiting for delivery.

If they are, then odd for posters to suggest * Lego for both* imo
My two (7 and 9) would be politely thank you but then I would put side for the charity shop as neither enjoy not ever have done... Lego!

SlayingDragons · 17/12/2019 06:45

If the 9 year old girl likes tat (like my 9yr old DTs) then Claire‘s Accessories, B&M/Home Bargains home sections, WH Smith are all good bets.

  • Stationery
  • fluffy cushions
  • fluffy hot water bottles
  • anything fluffy/furry
  • little purse
  • hand lotion
  • hand sanitiser
  • scrunchies (if she has long hair)
  • a necklace

I will be honest and say my DTs wouldn’t be thrilled with lego either which is most disappointing as my older two would have loved it. (And if it was the right set, would probably still appreciate it)

Bansku19 · 17/12/2019 12:55

My dc love Lego but I tell people not to get some because they have so much and the risk of duplicates is too high. I can tell a specific set if they really want to give Lego or check their suggestion.
