I love Christmas pudding so me and dc have a small one but dh doesn't like raisins (yeah. I know.) so I normally make a ginger and pear pudding thing which is lovely but fancied a change this year.
it should be fairly easy to make, still festive feeling (ginger is good) and not necessarily chocolatey.

Hit me with your tried and tested recommendations please!

Warm a couple of spoons of ginger marmalade in a small pan with a knob of butter, slice in a banana and let it bubble gently. Spoon the sauce over a couple of scoops of vanilla ice cream.
You can dress it up more with chopped crystallised ginger or a splosh of rum in the sauce.

toffee-pecan-ginger meringue roulade?

FightForYourRightToPourTea · 14/12/2019 19:44

Should've said... No banana either Grin
Literally the only things he won't eat!

Roulade sounds good. Dunno if I'm skilled enough...

Swap the banana for sliced pear.

We have cheesecake. There are some lovely recipes. I make the spiked cherry cheesecake from the Delicious website.

I do steamed syrup pudding. Then add fruit compote of your choice. Ice cream and custard.

And trifle.

Paul Hollywood's gingerbread. Yummy and sticky. Saves well and great with custard.

Mmmm. I've never thought of cheesecake as particularly Christmassy but i bloody love it.
Making a mincemeat cake today, guess me and dc will have to eat it all!

amazing ginger cheesecake!

AdaColeman · 15/12/2019 10:14

Individual Mont Blancs, especially quick and easy if you use ready made individual meringue nests.

AdaColeman · 15/12/2019 10:15

Black Forest trifle is another thought.

RibenaMonsoon · 15/12/2019 10:20

Delia does some awesome stuff.
There's her famous chocolate truffle torte (which I've tried and is bloody lovely)
Plus her orange trifle, which looks amazing, haven't attempted that one yet.

Tiramisu

Buche de Noel type ice cream

ineedaholidaynow · 15/12/2019 10:31

I do a Mary Berry lemon meringue ice cream, as I hate dried fruit. You freeze it in a bowl, and then turn it out of the bowl so it looks like a white Christmas pudding. You are meant to serve it with a raspberry sauce but I have it with brandy butter because I don’t want to miss out on that Xmas Grin

I think it's a jamie oliver recipe - vanilla panacotta with a rhubarb, ginger and prosecco sauce. Sauce isn't too sharp and can change to taste, can make day ahead to sit in fridge, and the panacotta is lovely even without sauce. Or poached pears?

ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 15/12/2019 10:46

Nigella has a lovely white chocolate cheesecake which can be made ahead of time and frozen. It's really nice!
