Gift ideas for an 11 year old girl that I don’t know

A local charity is organising gifts for disadvantaged children and I am contributing by getting a gift for an 11 year old girl.

I’ve already done a gift bag for a child my DS age but I have no idea about 11 year old girls, particularly as I have no idea what she would like. Does anyone have any suggestions for gifts that are likely to appeal to most girls this age please? I would like to get a few small things up to the value of about £20.

Thanks

Bath bombs, lip balm, scrunchies, emoji stickers, fancy pen, perfume (ted baker is cheap)

Maybe some things from smiggle or tinc? (Stationary), art supplies, bath bombs or shower gels, body shop, lush.

MadeForThis · 11/12/2019 21:14

Harry potter gifts - jammies etc. Books. Unicorns. Art supplies. Hair bands.

This is what my DD of the same age has received from friends recently. Obviously, depends on the child, but bath bombs in particular seem very popular. Or shower gels etc, interesting foam shower stuff etc in case the child doesn’t have a bath at home might be more sensible?

Just in case anyone else is doing this sort of thing, teenage boys are the age that receive the least donations.

Aqua beads. My 10 year old loves them

I have an 11 year old girl. She would love nail art, makeup pallet, bath bombs, lip balms, body spray, stationary but not smiggle.

I’m sure different charities have their way of doing things but unless it’s like a shoebox thing you might be best to get one item rather than a number of little things. They won’t necessarily all be put together to give to one child.

It’s not the easiest age to buy for but what about a “make your own” type gift such as bath bombs, jewellery, lip balm?
Some funky stationery.
Art set.
Board games.

Claire’s accessories has a sale at the moment. I got some quite good deals today on hair accessories, a Harry Potter pencil case and cosy socks, lip balm etc.

I have helped with charities in his and agree buy a single higher value item. I have seen bags lovingly put together with everything taken out and sprinkled in with other bundles of presents.

For some children the charity gift will be the only thing they get, so a higher value special item would be better.

People also buy lots and lots of cheaper items, but a single higher value good quality item is best.

It broke my heart to see what some people donated, I don’t think they would ever give the items to their own children as gifts - out of date annuals and calendars, packs of crayons with ones missing or broken. I even saw a paddling pool. Why someone thought a disadvantaged child would want a huge paddling pool in December I don’t know.

Thank you for doing this and putting so much thought into it. I wish everyone was as kind.

I wouldn't mind an out of date annual.

However is it going to a specific child?

11 is a strange age, my dd wouldn't want anything make up related really or nail art etc. My 6 year old does but 11 not into that at all.

Tk max is good for things...

Lovely dressing gown?

Perhaps lovely dressing gown (h and m has some nice ones) and bath bombs.. Xmassy from lush.. The feel of a new soft comforting dressing gown might be nice along with Xmas scented lush stuff...

Comradesally · 11/12/2019 23:46

Sorry I've just remembered something else my dd has been obsessed with is one of those faux fur throws... Tk max do lovey ones about 14.9o cheaper than anywhere else I've seen... Very soft and lovely for winter... Wrap up watching TV or in bed...

Youvebeenmuffled · 11/12/2019 23:46

I’d get a ted baker necklace for £20 quid from ASOS, would be lovely!

SE13Mummy · 11/12/2019 23:50

An 11-yr-old will have recently started secondary school or will do next year so you could buy a pencil case from somewhere like Paperchase and fill it with pastel highlighters, metal geometry set, real Pritt Sticks, Stabilo fine liners, friction pens, decent rubber and sharpener, scissors etc. so what they have at school is similar to what their peers have. Other suggestions would be an Eastpak bumbag or a decent backpack (Eastpak and Kanken are the most popular ones round here at the moment).

alwayscauseastir · 12/12/2019 07:35

@Comradesally my 11 year old is all about the designer makeup and acrylic nails. My 7 year old would be into fancy dress makeup. I'm talking high-end stuff, not cheap and nasty. She's just about to go into high school and it's all about fashion around here. Way above their time for my liking but that's the way it is.

BikeRunSki · 12/12/2019 07:39

IME 11 tear olds have friends out of Smiggle.

A good board game, one that doesn’t need
batteries.

Lovemusic33 · 12/12/2019 07:46

My dad’s wouldn’t want jewellery or make up either, they are not into that kind of thing (not girly). The dressing gown is a good idea, my dd lives anything fluffy and warm, slippers, onesies, blankets etc..., maybe a board game to play Christmas Day?

Asitgoes · 12/12/2019 07:49

Stationary (defo not smiggle), French squared paper notebooks, brush pens (my DD loves these), a bullet journal with pastel highlighter pens, stencils etc
Zebra, Stabilo ie premium brands which she probably wouldn't get otherwise. Agree about fewer items of higher quality

Asitgoes · 12/12/2019 07:51

Also, a Wreck It journal with pens etc proved a popular gift at that age

Comradesally · 12/12/2019 07:53

The may not have anyone to play a boardgames with.

I'd go for something they will 99% use or need like dressing gown, fluffy soft blanket.

I think loading up pretty pencil case with really lovley pens etc is also great idea because they will definalty use.

iloveredwine · 12/12/2019 08:00

my 11 year old would love lip balms, pencil case and nice funky stationery from somewhere like paperchase. fluffy pjs and hair stuff from claires. she is allergic to bath bombs and most bath stuff so couldnt use heavily scented stuff.
