Archaeology/anthropology books etc

Can anyone help me? My DD2 is almost 13 and very keen on forensic archaeology/anthropology but all the books I can find are for a younger age or very dry and academic. Most are also very old and I wondered if anyone knew of any newer books - non fiction preferably.

How about this one

imsorryiasked · 10/12/2019 13:01

Or there might be some here

Try "The Story of Archaeology" by Justin Pollard. He also has a couple of other books which may be appropriate too.

Francis Pryor writes in an easy-to-read style and he's a well respected archaeologist.
Try "Britain BC". Not many pictures in it though!

I’ve no books suggestions as all of mine as grad and postgrad books, but I highly recommend looking into joining YAC (Young archaeologists Club) - www.yac-uk.org/

AugustRose · 10/12/2019 21:19

Thank you for the suggestions, I think there are definitely a few I could choose. Unfortunately our nearest young archaeology group is 30 miles away, we did a dig last year and I'm going to look into some more for next year as we both enjoyed it.

Time Team have a book.

Otherwise, second hand might be the way to go. Abebooks would be good to look at.

BlueChampagne · 11/12/2019 12:59

Doubtless Alice Roberts has a few!

The Young Oxford Book of Archaeology by the late great Norah Moloney would be suitable I think. What era is your DD most interested in? - could suggest some others if you can narrow it down a bit :)

AugustRose · 11/12/2019 23:57

The dig we did was at a local roman fort and she loved it at Yorvik viking museum, but she is interested in any era really. She loves the anthropology side, looking at bones to determine how people died or if they had illnesses or deformities because of the way they worked. I think I'll get the Oxford book, I also want the one imsorryiasked recommended 'Their skeletons speak' but it has to come from America so it will have to do for her birthday at the end of January.
