I am going to get some art bits for my son for Christmas
He asked for a watch so It would be nice to do some art related to learning to tell the time..
Open to ideas but nothing too massive

He already loves and plays with

Crayons pens pencils paints
And colouring books

Does anyone remember the art box tray things that open like a brief case and are full of arty bits like pens pencils paints rulers etc
They weren't great quality but they were exciting for me when I was a child

I don't want to buy loads of gifts for my son

When he is interested in something I try to get him it or take him when I can instead of just buying on a special occasion so he isn't waiting for anything as such

We got him a heap of Lego for about 5 pounds on eBay second hand but I'm going to be sore on the floor playing with him so art stuff might be better

Also any arty project ideas you have would be brilliant

Thank you

My daughter is colouring mad, and she likes the books that have a few stickers in that make up part of the image, then you colour in the rest.

'Magic' water colouring book

The paper figures you cut out and dress with the tabs on the edges.

Glitter crayons
Stencils
Sticker books
Anything that involves cutting and glueing
Fingerpaint kits

bluechameleon · 07/12/2019 22:15

Ink stamps - either the self inking ones or the ones that you use with an ink pad.

Di11y · 07/12/2019 22:25

you can get an ink pad that's the face of a clock with no hands so don't have to keep drawing it.

apart from that I'd suggest decent child size scissors that actually cut, coloured card, stickers, pipe cleaners etc. you can get giant tubs of craft for £5 and use the tubs for storing lego after win win!

Mine loves multicoloured tissue paper - tearing it and sticking it down with pritt stick

There's some really good plastic stencils on B&M at the moment too which mine love. Sometimes they just draw and colour them, and other times they use pva and glitter and use the stencils that way

Tiredandgrumpytonight · 07/12/2019 22:36

Paint sticks are great!

Poetryinaction · 07/12/2019 23:52

I was going to say paint sticks. The Works does cheap ones.
Dabbers.
Gel pens.
Stickers.
Hama beads.

cultmaskid · 08/12/2019 06:18

Lots of things I didn't think of and hadn't heard of. Stamps, stencils, paint sticks..
Thank you very much

Pipe cleaners, beads, tissue paper scraps, stickers paint, glue sticks and lots and lots of paper are all in regular use by our 4 year old.

CottonSock · 08/12/2019 07:28

These scissors are fab

Definitely paint sticks.
DS also loves the colour in buildings from Hobbycraft. Take up a lot of space but hours of entertainment

Jammysod · 08/12/2019 08:40

Stickers, tissue paper, googly eyes, pritt stick (much less messy than PVA!), coloured paper/card, pipe cleaners, pom-poms. If you've got one local, have a look in 'The Works' - loads of cheap & cheerful stuff. Supermarkets tend to have stuff too.
Keep hold of toilet tube rolls too, you can make endless things with them! We're making Christmas puppets with them today.

Herja · 08/12/2019 08:43

Spirographs. And craft things, mostly pop poms and pipe cleaners. All the glitter glue, she gets through a full pack a month.

sawyersfishbiscuits · 08/12/2019 09:14

Paint dabbers are brilliant at this age, and they have great packs of unusual stampers and brushes in Wilko. (I bought a set for my arty Dad who has dementia 😢)

I've ordered some of the Fimo air dry clay for my kids to make Christmas decorations with, it drys beautifully and is more sturdy than salt dough/normal clay.

You can pick up some big canvases in home bargains super cheap.

Hophop26 · 08/12/2019 09:24

Thanks for the tip on decent scissors, have ordered those! @CottonSock

Stompythedinosaur · 08/12/2019 09:32

Mine are a little older now, but pre-five they liked junk modelling (things like googly eyes and pipecleaners and lolly sticks were helpful for this), painting and aquabeads.

cultmaskid · 08/12/2019 10:56

Love the print on the scissors!!

I've made up a box of all sorts - a lot from the pound shop - for Gdcs to share, elder is 4 3/4. Paper, white and coloured, felt shapes, gel pens, glitter glue sticks, paints that comes in a tube with a brush at the end, gummed stickers, feathery bits, some other supposedly non-messy paint 'pens'. And probably something else I've forgotten about.
Put it all in a big shoe box covered with Christmas paper.

inthekitchensink · 08/12/2019 13:50

Blow paints, stencils, glitter
