Present for ds (6)

Ds has asked for a Nintendo switch for Christmas. We warned him that if he got one, that would be the only one present he gets as it is bigger than other presents. He said that's fine, he will be happy with that. He is fully expecting to get the switch with one game and that's it.

I can't really afford to spend much more on him but feel guilty that he won't have different presents to play with on Christmas day and toys to open and play with.

We've got him the switch, a game for it, a few colouring books, a reading book, novelty erasers.

Is there any toys/board games I can get him that don't cost a lot of money?

Goo jit zu's seem popular.
Or how about a Nintendo water bottle/mug or some other merchandise.
Junior cluedo/ monopoly?

Rudolphsjinglebells · 06/12/2019 10:44

I was thinking junior monopoly might be a good game to get. I'll look at your other suggestions thanks, don't even know what a goo jit zu is Confused

Junior monopoly is really good! My six year old loves it!
You can get a two pack o nerf guns for 15 pound which is hours of family fun.
UNO playing cards
Quixels

Personally I would stick to what you've told him. You've explained that asking for a big gift means less small gifts and he's understood and taken it with good grace which is very mature, seems silly to confuse your message now.

If you want to get extra I would just get him things he needs rather than wants like clothes, or a family gift he would benefit from (like a game) that is not just for him.

Will he get any presents from anyone else?

Either way I would do him a stocking - I have DS5 and he loves lots of crap basically - fidget spinners etc so for £20 or so I would do lots of little bits for him to open. A Switch is a big present (worth it though we have one)

Thanks all.

@tashakg89
He plays Uno in school and likes it so I'll try get that for him.

@aSofaNearYou that's a good point. I should probably let the switch be from Santa and the other few bits from us. That way there won't be any confusion and he will know for future years if he asks for one expensive gift, it really means one gift.

@Greyhound22 yes he will get presents from my parents, my sister and brother but won't see them until late into the afternoon. Yes he likes all the little fiddly bits but just struggling to think of any at the minute.

The Switch should be from you not Santa the price that's costing! haha!

In our house Santa brings the stocking and we buy the main presents. It's not fair on child from poorer backgrounds to think they haven't been 'good enough' to get an expensive games console like their friends.

My DS is also getting a Switch, he's super excited about it. What game are you going to get?

Rudolphsjinglebells · 06/12/2019 16:09

You're right @ritzbiscuits we should have said that, it's just the way it is where we are that Santa seems to bring big masses of toys to everyone.

He's getting super mario u deluxe. He has mario kart on the ds and that's a really good game so thinking maybe we should have gone with that instead Confused I'm always doubting myself

My son plays Super Mario on my old DS and it’s his favourite! I think you can be different characters (some of whom make it a bit easier too!) Personally I think Mario Kart is a bit boring, so I think you’ve made a good choice!
