Christmas gift for someone you’ve never met

So my brother who lives in abroad is coming home for Christmas, and bringing his fiancé with him, who I’ve never met, and don’t know much about. I have no idea what to get her?

I have 15 people to buy for not including my own 2 children so it would it need to be under the £15 mark.

Any ideas?

I think this is the occasion that Boots was meant for! Get a set of some description. It's a nice token gift.

SunsetYorks · 03/12/2019 22:35

Is there something traditional from your area you could get her?

Mumtobe193 · 03/12/2019 22:44

@SunsetYorks nothing immediately springs to mind, but it’s a good idea. I will have to have a think 🤔

Could you ask your brother for some general ideas of what she likes, might be nice to make the effort to get her something based on her interests to show she is welcome rather than something generic. I'm sure your brother would appreciate the effort too!

GreenTulips · 03/12/2019 22:55

What does your brother miss?
For example a friend of mine always takes Jaffa cakes home (abroad) as they can’t get them!
I miss some brands not available here .... and stock up at home if DSis hasn’t posted anything recently.

Maybe post where they are from might help?

OctoberLovers · 03/12/2019 22:55

Ask your brother?

GreenTulips · 03/12/2019 22:56

I’d leave make up as that’s readily available all over.

ShortHairSuitsYou · 03/12/2019 23:01

Will she have a checked bag or carry on going home? If only carry on, no liquids.
So a dry gift set ☺️

Threeminis · 03/12/2019 23:02

How old is she?
How long are they coming for?

Mumtobe193 · 03/12/2019 23:03

I’ve asked him and he’s pretty much useless at coming up with ideas himself. He just says she has everything and he can’t think of anything she would want or need 🤷‍♀️

Turtle Doves or other gloves/scarf/warm items (could be especially useful if they are coming from a warm place)
Something edible if they are travelling back so no luggage space? (Risky if you don't know whether she's vegan/teetotal/fussy though!)
Candle in a tin
Bookaroo Pen holder
Nesti Dante Soap
A nice eco shopping bag (maybe a novelty, depending where they live, or alternately if somewhere that carrier bags are already eradicated, will definitely be used)

draughtycatflap · 03/12/2019 23:04

A lovingly hand-crafted ceramic penis beaker.

Mumtobe193 · 03/12/2019 23:04

She’s 30 & for a week

Candle in a tin sounds a safe bet. Who doesn’t love a nice candle?

CaviarAndCigarettes · 03/12/2019 23:05

@draughtycatflap 😂😂😂😂

Herocomplex · 03/12/2019 23:06

Are you on any social media with her? There must be some clues on there.

Mumtobe193 · 03/12/2019 23:08

Candle and some Cadbury chocs (it’s near impossible to get where they live). Sorted! Why did I not think of that?

OP posts:
Mumtobe193 · 03/12/2019 23:08

She’s not on social media

Candle and nice chocolates that you can't get in their country is what I was going to suggest.

jpclarke · 03/12/2019 23:18

Are they recently engaged? What about a personalised Christmas ornament?

justilou1 · 03/12/2019 23:22

Where does she come from? If she’s from a warmer climate, how about a cute hat, scarf and mittens set? Or something quintessentially British and cutesie with Union Jacks, etc?

TrickyD · 04/12/2019 13:52

A photo frame, TKMax are a good source, and print off a photo of your brother to put in it.

Luaa · 04/12/2019 16:28

It's tricky because she's going to have to take it home and might not have much space in her luggage.

If your brother can tell you literally nothing about what she likes and dislikes, which is weird by the way, then I'd go with a nice box of chocolates or something similar.

ineedto · 04/12/2019 17:00

How about a voucher between them to eat out or go somewhere when they are visiting?

Ragwort · 04/12/2019 17:02

I agree that a voucher for them both to share something local would be better, afternoon tea in a local hotel? That sort of thing.
