I'm 30 something
I have a toddler
I don't like products or wear much make up
I hate my body size and shape
I'm not into candles
I don't have time for movies or music

What do I want for Christmas?

My family keep asking and I don't want them to waste their money

Do you have any hobbies or need anything in particular for a hobby? Anything wearing out that would last fine but would be nice to have new? Do you like to go out to events/gigs/shows etc. Or anything that might support a bit of luxury or make your life easier? Eg. I’ve asked my DP to get me new tap shoes for my dance class. I’ve got him a ticket to a gig next year. My parents are replacing his old slippers as they’re now very worn though he still loves them. Vouchers for favourite shops or restaurants could be nice, or an “experience” you might not treat yourself to otherwise. A couple of years ago I took my dad for a tour of the United stadium for example. I’ve asked for “nice to have” homeware mostly this year - storage baskets, pretty glasses, baking books.

What about something like a subscription service for a set amount of time? For flowers, or for cooking (Gousto or similar?) or books?

Small useful things could also be nice - I’ve suggested things like new hair grips, an umbrella, mascara, cupcake cases, a particular moisturiser I use etc.

A nice duvet set?

AwkwardAsAllGetout · 03/12/2019 21:05

Nice pyjamas? I love getting new pjs at Christmas as they’re useful and something I’d normally scrimp on if I bought them myself. And I have similar body issues, not a problem if noones going to see you in them. This year I’ve bought my own present to wrap up as it’s been a tough year and frankly I deserve it. And it’s a beautiful shiny KitchenAid. Completely frivolous but I’ll use it to death and it’ll make me smile every time I see it. I’ve wanted one for years and it feels good knowing I’ve bought myself something nice, which again I’d not usually do. Is there anything you do actually want, even if it sounds a bit odd or silly? I’d have a think and then see if people would buy you that. I’d always rather buy something people actually want so I wouldn’t be put off by an odd request

AwkwardAsAllGetout · 03/12/2019 21:08

Also, just looking at your username. I bought myself (god, I’m noticing a theme here. I’m not usually a big spender but somethings obviously changed recently Blush) a heated throw someone linked to on here a few weeks ago. It’s AMAZING. I’m always cold and it’s so lovely to snuggle under. I have a very difficult baby as well as older dc and I think in these early years it’s really difficult to have a sense of yourself and what YOUR needs are when you’re so busy putting others before yourself

MilkLady02 · 03/12/2019 21:10

I’ve asked for things I would buy myself anyway, but nice versions. Molton Brown shower gel, nice socks, more expensive shampoo than I would usually buy for myself, etc..

Starlight2004 · 03/12/2019 21:16

Well you are a similar age to me, my children are older and I have more time on my hands though! Some things I would like are

A spa voucher
A gin subscription or a nice bottle
A new electric toothbrush
New trainers for gym
New cross body bag for every day wear
Voucher for hair salon/nails

dingdang · 03/12/2019 21:33

I quite fancy an electric diffuser to make my home smell amazing. I'm also v keen on reading so a great gift would be a book voucher! There's always food and drink stuff too, I've got an amazing truffle oil which makes pasta amazing 😀 failing that wine and cheese would make me very happy

AnniePankettonne · 03/12/2019 21:33

Wool tights from John Lewis.

Strictly1972 · 03/12/2019 21:33

Kindle?
I’ve asked for a necklace with my children’s names on, pjs & a jewellery storage case.

dingdang · 03/12/2019 21:34

Ooh I also have the heated throw. It's brilliant!

Igottastartthinkingbee · 03/12/2019 21:43

A leather rucksack? Or faux leather rucksack .
Books?
Picture frames/prints
Lovely crockery (Emma Bridgwater)
Chunky knitwear, or scarves/gloves set.
Wool blankets
Pjs and slippers

SunshineAngel · 03/12/2019 21:46

My parents keep asking me this, and I genuinely want nothing. I'm happy with everything I have and wear etc. The only thing I've said is that they could perhaps buy us some restaurant vouchers as we never treat ourselves so that would allow us to - but they've said it's crude, and too close to cold, hard cash.

But I do think vouchers are a good idea. Maybe for your local chain pub even - I love going to our local carvery so vouchers for that would suit me down to the ground.

Alakazam8 · 03/12/2019 22:28

Can anyone link at all to the heated throw? Would like to get one if possible. Thanks

MiniMileyMoo · 03/12/2019 22:39

You've (almost - I quite like beauty products!) described me. On my list is a handbag (a proper one, rather than the backpack I've got used to using for kids stuff!), Some sheepskin slippers , Next jersey PJs, Snag tights and some good quality leggings (eg hush or mint velvet) and some household bits but nicer eg Emma Bridgewater mug, new duvet cover.

Starrynights86 · 03/12/2019 23:07

Nice wine, picture frames, massage voucher, fancy kitchen things like really good olive oil?

msmith501 · 03/12/2019 23:17

A decent book series. Spas etc won't work as you have already indicated that you're not into make up and neither are you bodily comfortable - rather than create a "gift experience"situation that you will probably dread, focus on things conducive to your wellbeing. I love my kindle simply because it is a portal to so much reading material.

colderthancold · 04/12/2019 06:05

You are all wonderful!!

I have a very demanding job so don't have any time for hobbies or even for things like spa days because any spare time I get I want to spend with DS.

A heated throw sounds blissful!! And pjs is always a good shout.

Thanks so much for all your ideas!!

I suspect I am getting a programmable electric kettle and some historical spy novels by Alan Furst. The kettle will be nice because I can have it start boiling water for my morning pot of tea while I'm still in bed.

A few years ago the DCs got me some scented candles. I wasn't a candle person. But I am now..

Lonelykettleshed · 04/12/2019 06:45

Alakazama, Lakeland sells them. I got a Black Friday offer one from them.

DonPablo · 04/12/2019 06:51

I said it on another thread, but have you seen fablou bags? I have two and I'm hankering after the purse! Or another city tote in the new navy.

I also like the recycled inflatable bags. And the recycled fire hose bags.

Hmmm. I like bags!

And perfume. I'd like a bottle of Jean Paul gautier classique.

Or a velvetiser? I bought one for ds and I'm envious!

al2616 · 04/12/2019 06:57

I have asked for a family photo shoot for christmas. If you're anything like me you never have any photos of you all together.

FusionChefGeoff · 04/12/2019 07:13

Mini perfumes set so you can properly road test a few different options.
