Seven year old girl - stocking and presents

A 7 year old little girl has just come into our lives and it’s very likely she will be here for Christmas ( Fostering). I only normally have teens, so I’m not sure what to get her. She has absolutely nothing and no particular ideas about what she'd like, but she has enjoyed slime this weekend and is a good reader. I’d like to get her some classic stuff like Lego but also some ‘cool’ tat that will help her fit in at school ( in a ‘I love your pencil case’ conversation starter way ) I’m thinking maybe Smiggle?

We are really big on stockings here, and some great ideas for her stocking would be appreciated.

Hair stuff - slides/hairband/bobbles
A little handbag
Pencils
puzzle book
Undies/Tights/socks
Bubble bath/ shower gel

GrumpyHoonMain · 30/11/2019 20:29

I would get her some books she can read and reread over again and small things that will last (and she can hide / pack easily) rather than tat - maybe steel pencil cases, or a pair of pretty but high quality earrings / other jewellry from John Lewis etc.

FoxInABox · 30/11/2019 20:34

The big hair clips are very ‘in’ where we are, as well as scrunchies. Claire’s are great for both.
Hype bags and pencil cases also very ‘in’ in my kids primary school.
My DD loves craft kits, like tie dye, bath bomb making etc.

Caramel78 · 30/11/2019 20:37

The Little People, Big Dreams book series are fab. My 7 year old niece loves them. They are books made for that age group about important people from history/still alive such as Stephen hawking, mother Teresa, David Attenborough, emmeline Pankhurst etc.
My 7 year old niece also loves beanie babies, LOLs, hatchimals, Jacqueline Wilson books and craft stuff like glitter gel pens.

Dollymixture22 · 30/11/2019 20:38

Defiantly Go to smuggle for the school stuff. My six year old niece was in heaven. Pencil cases, stationary and water bottles (For desk water). Very cool.

Lego goes down a Treat. If she is really girly then the friends stuff is popular.

Lip balms - Claire’s does really funky ones that girls love to collect.

Anything with unicorns or mermaids. Owls as well for some reason.

National geographic has great kids books. There are brilliant books out there for this age group - isadora the vampire fairy is a current favourite.

Jewellery not so much for the groups I know - just gets lost. Also scented and soft seems to be the way to go for pencil cases not steel.

Tyrell Katz have some quirky pencil cases. I really love the panda's

tyrrellkatz.co.uk/gifts-and-home/pencil-cases.html

Some Stationary to go in it? Scented gel pens, cute rubbers, mini notebooks etc

Chocolate santa, or m&s have some cool flamingo sweets

Lush glittery bath bomb

Necklace

Hair accessories from claires

Jellycat soft toy - I think the fluffy Starfish is cute

Bag charm

Copperblack · 30/11/2019 20:45

Thanks! Some great ideas 😀

I'd go with a 'So slime' slime making kit.
Smiggle also great choice.
DD 8 currently loves the fortune cookies with bracelet inside ( they the 'thing' among her friends)
She's also into fluffy notebooks, scented pens and erasers in various shapes/animals.
She also loves the stress-ball type keyrings ( Claire's) for her school bag.

Biomon2010 · 30/11/2019 20:46

Hey, at this age girls enjoy being able to physically do things creative and fun. It may be worth getting her some arts and craft supplies, my sisters when they were younger use to love doing foil art pictures and paint/colour by numbers etc, biggest 3 brands you hear girls talking about lately are LOL dolls, Doorables and My Little Pony. I have a 9 year-old son who is more into girl stuff than boy stuff so I’m rather confident on this. Hope the ideas help.

Dollymixture22 · 30/11/2019 20:49

My niece felt very Special with this water bottle for her desk water

www.smiggle.co.uk/shop/en/smiggleuk/food-drink/drink-bottles/squash-silicone-water-bottle?colour=PASTEL

Baking is also a lovely activity - you could do up a kit of ingredients with lots of special sprinkles etc and that could be an activity for between Christmas and new year.

Lovemenorca · 30/11/2019 20:50

Key rings to attach to her school bag

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 30/11/2019 20:55

Sequins and glitter. Everything is improved by the addition of one of these. Tops with reversible sequins, sequin cushions etc.
Frozen 2 merchandise looks to be very enviable amongst my Yr2 daughter's peers.
Book people is great for sets of books at reasonable prices.
Those hats with the scarves attached.

Alanna1 · 30/11/2019 20:57

I always do new knickers, socks and fun tights in stockings, if that appeals - a really easy way to fill them out every year.
Other little presents for stockings - bath bombs, inexpensive jewellery (have got some beautiful things in charity shops over the years for my tweens).
Book people still great for books at that age.
I think the stationery from smiggle et al mentioned upthread is quite poor quality. Tinc stuff (john lewis stock) is a bit better. Otherwise a stationary or art shop. Baker Ross?
Good luck!

neversleepagain · 30/11/2019 21:02

I have two Severn year old girls and in their stockings will be...
A small pot of goo
Twisty snake puzzle
Smiggle pencil case
Lip glosses
Top Trumps cards, animals
Unicorn head band
Soap and Glory face mask
Key ring for their school bag
Jelly cat soft toy

Starbonnet123 · 30/11/2019 21:02

There is a company called The Works , they have shops in most towns, if not they are online . They do great craft kits like paint your own rock kits , unicorn painting kit , lip gloss kits, bath bomb and perfume kits and at the moment they are 2for a tenner or 3 for £12

AgnesNaismith · 30/11/2019 21:04

Polly pockets are a big favourite of my dd, portable and fun.

Sylvanian families

If books - the Harry Potter illustrated hardback series are beautiful!! Along with a scarf for the house she might choose!

Lush bath stuff

LittlePanda1 · 30/11/2019 21:05

My dd is 8 -

Smiggle is a great shop for backpacks, key rings, water bottles, pens etc

She also loves bath bombs (I got them from Poundland)
Colouring books & pencils
Claire's - hair bobbles / lip balms
TY beanie babies
LOL dolls
Hatchimals
Dork Diary books
Lego - Lego friends
New pjs
Owls, unicorns, mermaids

UndertheCedartree · 30/11/2019 21:07

My 7 year old has the pop-out Smiggle pencil case and it has proved very popular with her friends!

In her stocking she has a punch balloon, couple of Barbie blind boxes, pikmi pop, socks, chocolate coins, can of drink, sweets and Ty cuddly snowman.

Her main present from me is a Designafriend doll (Argos). Her dad is getting her a Babyalive. My partner is getting her a Scruff-a-luv. She is also getting a Descendants book, Twistypet, Enchantimal and LOL pjs and hair clips.

Hope you all have a lovely Christmas!

Love51 · 30/11/2019 21:12

Hama beads.
We've had every type of bead, Hama are the best.
A fluffy (or sequinned) notepad with a lock.
One of those pens that writes in 10 colours.
If she doesn't already have access to paints etc at your house, those.
Her own set of felt tips.
Lego friends (unless she is a Harry Potter fan)
Smiggle is a good brand for that age (I'm not convinced by the quality, but I'm not 7!)
My DD found a hairbrush in home bargains or b&m where you can store the bobbles in the handle and she thinks it is the dogs cajones.
Someone upthread said craft kits, like bath bomb making etc. You can get various craft / slime / sciency kits. (My son got a glow in the dark science kit for his birthday from his best friend).
Good luck. It is a fun age!

UserPop · 30/11/2019 21:21

My 7yr old DD loves the diary of a Wimpy kid series. We've got her Captain underpants (she loves the netflix series) and Jacqueline Wilson book collections for christmas.

She has asked for things like hatchimals pixies, pomsies lumies, a Rubik's cube and Polly pockets! She also loves unicorn things, cute things, anything with sequins and enjoys doing all sorts of crafts.

Anoisagusaris · 30/11/2019 21:29

Definitely Smiggle - only from the offers section online though! Lots of stuff reduced now.

Primark for hair stuff, jewellery and lip balms

Other stocking stuff - bath bombs, shower gel, slime, anything Unicorn themed.

Lego friends

LOL dolls

Our Generation Dolls are really popular too and I actually think the dolls are quite good value for the size and quality of them.

And books of course!

Anoisagusaris · 30/11/2019 21:29

Oh and arts and crafts stuff

Lc2006 · 30/11/2019 21:53

These seem to be really popular with my DDs class I got her some last year and she still plays with them they are animals made out of beads that twist into bracelets

She also likes Hairdorables

All top Model things seem to go down well you can get all sorts like this secret diary

I've got my Dd this watercolour kit this year

Schleich Unicorns are lovely

Lego friends
Board games
Handbag
Perfume (primark do kids ones in shape of a unicorn etc)
Branded trainers
Fluffy throw to snuggle up with
Mermaid tail blanket
Anything LOL

Stompythedinosaur · 01/12/2019 02:27

My dds both loved the Smiggle pencil cases with lots of buttons to push to make compartments pop out.

They also loved a notebook with a lock on, the cuddly toy things that you heat in the microwave and spy/code stuff (especially uv pens, which aren't expensive). Also glitter tattoo kits and nail varnish.

Indella · 01/12/2019 05:43

You’ve had lots of fab ideas already that my 7 year old girl would also love! In terms of school conversation starters, reversible sequin backpacks and scented pens go down very well right now.
