Stocking ideas for 40 year old man

DP and I are getting married on 22nd December, we’ve also just found out I’m pregnant (very early days mind) so with one thing and another we’ve decided not to do much present wise this year.

We thought we’d get a stocking/ gift bag each and just fill it with little bits and have said £25 max. I’m going to do a few bottles of beer and the snacks/chocolate he likes but just wondered if anyone had any other ideas?

He likes techy stuff but not sure what I could get that was in budget. He loves football - playing, watching and particularly participating in various fantasy football leagues. He’s not particularly ‘handy’ or interested in DIY. He’s very interested in WW2 history and particularly the planes but that’s a shared interest with his dad and I think between them they probably have every book on the subject they’re likely to ever read and always buy related stuff for each other’s gift so I tend to stay clear of that. He likes the other cliche stuff you’d expect for a guy his age - original Star Wars films etc.

Congratulations!

Have you an Alexa thing? How about a smart plug if he doesn't already have one?

Weather station thing? Cookbook?

A map centred on where he was born, order from the OS website, not too expensive, but interesting & different.

Old fashioned sweets, mint humbugs, sherbet lemons etc.

My husband is 45 and a few of the cheaper things I've got him:

  • Speciality tea
  • Wine gums/Terrys chocolate orange
  • Joules fluffy socks (cheap on their official store)
  • Indian cookbook (bargain £2 from The Works)

Regardless of what Else I get him, I always get dh (he's 42) a yard of Jaffa cakes - the long thin packs of them, you normally see them in supermarkets.

Boys love Swiss Army knives. You can get a basic one pretty cheap.

A cheap power bank for his phone.

Thermal gloves

A key ring torch

Extra long Phone charging cable

notebook

Pen

One of those foam glider planes you used to get as kids. £2

Boomerang

I know you’re avoiding the ww2 subject but would he like a replica d-day US army cricket clicker. The soldiers used them to recognise each other, and they are very satisfying fidget toys.

This might sound daft, but as a plane geek and war history geek, I was bought an Airfix DIY spitfire and it took me hours of much enjoyment building and painting it. It now has pride of place in my bedroom! Great gift :)

SuntanC · 01/12/2019 00:12

Ps congratulations! :)

AliasGrape · 01/12/2019 06:09

Thanks everyone some really good ideas! My mind had gone blank so this really helps.

@SuntanC He loves an airfix model!
