Small, easily transportable stocking fillers for uni student

Hullabaloo9 · 27/11/2019 22:55

I desperately need stocking filler inspiration for my 20 year old daughter. She is at uni right at the other end of the country. As she travels by train or budget airline she cannot take much back with her after Christmas. This rules out the usual stocking full of amusing tat. I need useful, practical and small ideas for a 20 year old. Any suggestions?

Stuff she can use- nice hand wash, shower gel etc... she'll make space in her luggage to have some little luxuries!

Chimchar · 27/11/2019 23:01

Gift cards to use in uni... coffee shops, pre paid supermarket cards, Netflix cards etc...

Flat face masks, lip balm, Vaseline tin with her name on (from Vaseline website) hair pack,

Nice stationary...pens, post it notes etc,

New phone case, charging cable, battery pack

Wizotto · 27/11/2019 23:01

Jewellery wrap, earrings, pack of cards in a tin, makeup, nice pen, keyring...

You could order a supermarket order of useful and enjoyable things and have it delivered in January, and give her each "item" as a piece of paper promise on a Christmas ornament or piece of fruit in her stocking (that can then stay at home). That way, no transportation required but she can still 'unwrap.' Or, lipsalve and posh snack bars!

Gift card for favourite store, folding travel toothbrush, travel size toiletries, hot chocolate sachet, chocolate coins or haribo, mini stationery set, battery operated tea lights, small nail polish and hand cream, new knickers, pair of socks

Fortysix · 27/11/2019 23:02

Bamboo toothbrush, reusable string shopping bag, key ring , lanyard ribbon, sticky credit card holder that goes on back of her mobile so she can take her Monzo card out, tangle tease brush, wooden tooth flosser sticks

AutumnCrow · 27/11/2019 23:04

Is she flying with a carry-on case only to avoid hold fees? That rules out most toiletries.

My DC at university likes earphones. Lots of earphones.

Can they suggest a paperback book that can be put in a jacket pocket, if they like plays, poetry, or pb versions of literary fiction?

Chai.

Even on a budget airline, you're allowed to board wearing a jacket or coat with stuff in pockets.

Lemsip, paracetamol, aspirin, plasters
Party feet
Pack of pens
Post it notes

New PJs, fancy hot choc with a pack of mini marshmallows, bath bombs, cute socks and pants, if she wears make up find out what her favourite make up item is and buy a really fancy one, nice hair accessories (silk scrunchies are brilliant if she’s got thick/curly hair. Just discovered them myself!)

Milk fritter
Electric toothbrush
Jars of herbs and spices

RickOShay · 28/11/2019 22:37

@SummerintoAutumn
What’s a milk fritter?
Sounds interesting

RickOShay · 28/11/2019 22:37

Is it a frother?

Fizzywinegum · 28/11/2019 23:07

Thanks for the info about the personalised Vaseline lip balm Chimchar - I’ve ordered a few Smile

SummerintoAutumn · 29/11/2019 07:02

Yes I mean Frother!!

Lizzy1980 · 29/11/2019 07:06

I actually just posted something (think it was in products section) about Superdrug Layering Lab body sprays. I'm getting loads for my teen/early 20's Niece's. I think they would make lovely stocking fillers

Aria2015 · 29/11/2019 07:09

Does she have a phone? (Probably a stupid question!) You can buy portable changers that can give your phone a boost if you run out of battery while you're out and about - I got a handbag charm one as gift and it was really useful.

blametheparents · 29/11/2019 07:13

I've got DS jars of lazy garlic and lazy chilli, and sachets of thai curry paste etc (BLue Dragon have a good selection and are a good size). He is enjoying learning to cook so I am hoping he will like these stocking fillers.

sashh · 29/11/2019 07:17

USB sticks are always useful.

Emergency chocolate - you can actually get it, it says 'for use in case of emergency' on it.

Flip flops for the shower if she is sharing a bathroom.

Vouchers for local (to her) shops.Or cinema or take away.

Theatre tickets, I got some for my niece a few years ago for her local theatre, I checked she could change them if she wanted but I booked for a Wednesday afternoon when there are generally no lectures.

Rail card if she doesn't already have one.

Rail / air ticket home for a weekend mid term.

OK these are not exactly stocking fillers but maybe one or two.

jay55 · 29/11/2019 08:20

Makeup brushes. Little perfume rollerballs. Nice soap and chocolate.

RickOShay · 29/11/2019 18:32

Oh shame @SummerintoAutumn, it sounded good Grin

milliefiori · 29/11/2019 18:36

A mug filled with wrapped presents such as good lip balm, mascara, a maglite torch, a nice pen, new ear buds and phone charger, then add some treat snacks, favourite chocolate, a portable phone-battery charger, a coffee card for her local coffee shop and some really warm socks or tights and gloves in colours you know she loves.
