I've barely worked at all this year so I've asked my family if we can have a strict budget of £10 each, and they've agreed. The trouble is what can you get for that? There are no children to consider, only my dad (69) mum (65) sister (35) and brother (34). They're always impossible to buy for anyway but such a tight budget (could stretch to £12 each) is going to make it extra tricky!

I'd like to try and avoid the generic scented candle/socks/gloves/moisturiser type stuff. Any more original ideas that might work?

For my best friend (37) I've got a colouring book for the city we live in with nice pencils £11

For a family friend I've got her a book of Greta Thunberg speeches and some really nice eco friendly soap bars £9

You can get nice stuff for that price!

Easy, just get nice food gifts (wine, good olive oil, some fancy spices, lux hot chocolate).
In my family we do small gifts for adults. For me that means coffee beans for dad, some art supply (good brush, a tube of high quality paint) for mum, a book for sis and fancy socks for BIL. it's stuff they love.

Definitely books! Get The Roasting Tin from the works for £7 if you have any foodies in the family

M&S stollen would be a great £10 SS present for me

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/11/2019 00:02

A book and a nice bar of chocolate each.

Vouchers so they can download something - music, a film, no waste.

Mini homemade hamper of treats? I do this for my parents, with a larger budget but I'm sure it could work with yours; I put in food and drink that I know they like but wouldn't necessarily buy regularly for themselves and I use a cardboard box core thre actual hamper, that I cover in wrapping paper, so it looks nicer.

Verylucky2 · 30/11/2019 00:27

Last year I put in nice crackers, a few of their favourite cheeses, chutneys, a locally produced fruit juice, some homemade honeycomb and truffles, some nice coffee (Beanies from Aldi), and some other bits and pieces. Or went doesn really well as it was all stuff they'd use or wanted to try.

You wouldn't get much in a hamper for a tenner. Personally I'd rather have one nice thing than lots of cheap things.

A book or Hotel Chocolat box as mentioned below.

Or suggest not buying at all.

I love the book and bar of chocolate idea, definitely going to pinch that for my secret Santa and I would love to receive it too!

Go too boots do the 3 for 2 they always have nice gifts.

Ellmau · 30/11/2019 18:35

Chocolates or nice biscuits. Get them each a different type to show you've thought about it ;)

If you have a John Lewis near you they always have a nice range, and lots will be in your budget. (Or order via their website.)

Secret santa is the way to go

Have you checked Groupon? They have Black Friday deals with lots of things 30% off.

You could get a couples gift for your mum and dad like tickets to an event or lunch somewhere.

AlohaMolly · 30/11/2019 18:50

For your mum and dad, could you group them together so it’s £20 for a joint present instead of £10 each? If you shop around, you might find an afternoon tea or something?

For your brother and sister, would they appreciate home made gifts? For £20 you could make some fudge, some biscuits, some chutney maybe?
