It's only 5ft tall, but it should grow over the years. It smells wonderful and has a great shape! It came wrapped in netting and black plastic but opened up to this shape immediately.

Very very pleased. Grin

Oh it's lovely! Where did you get it from?

Hoppinggreen · 26/11/2019 09:35

DH wants a potted none this year but I’m not sure, do you plant it in the garden after xmas or leave it in the pot and get a bigger pot as it grows?
I think it would be lovely to just bring it in each year rather than get a new one but I’m rubbish at plants and I’m worried it would die

Christmas trees direct. They have a tie-in with Amazon so I paid through my Amazon account, which made me feel a bit more trusting. They had several options when I ordered at the beginning of the month, but I don't know.what stock is like now!

I think you repot it. I assumed it would come with instructions but it hasn't, so I'm going to have a look at the website again.

This is a fraser fir, btw.

Ah yes, the website says to repot it before Christmas next year.

Thank you
I will have a look. Since DD (and then DS) were small we had a “thing” about them going with DH to choose a tree and they had to choose the one that spoke to them (sounds daft I know) so going to get the tree was always part of our xmas tradition. However, now they are almost 15 and 11 they might not be bothered anymore Sad

We get a potted tree every year. The longest one has survived is until August.

Pippapotomus · 26/11/2019 14:01

@Hoppinggreen my teen needs to be bribed with the promise of hot chocolate and cake at the garden centre. She used to love choosing a tree and for years would wear a Christmas jumper for the trip.

Themyscira · 26/11/2019 14:02

Ah, Pip! We shall see about this fella. Fingers crossed.

I got mine from Tesco last year and it has survived so I will use it outside this year too. I re-potted it into a bigger pot after last Christmas and it even has lighter green new growth on it

Asda also has their potted trees in stock

notnowmaybelater · 26/11/2019 14:09

There is a service which delivers and picks up a potted tree each year... Not sure whether it's a con in the sense of it probably/ possibly not always being the same tree , but a relative uses them and they certainly get a healthy tree each year..

Themyscira · 26/11/2019 14:11

demented that's so pretty!

I've heard about the yearly collection service but forgot about it! Might look into it if I can't keep this one alive.Blush

If you leave it in the pot, make sure you water it enough.

We always have a small potted tree outside the front door, but I've never managed to keep one more than a couple of years. Unless you're very vigilant and keep it somewhere shady, even a hot week or two in summer will have it looking very sad, with brown branches that won't green up again - at least ours never have.

MaisyMary77 · 26/11/2019 14:26

I also got one from Tesco’s last year. It’s doing really well. I repotted it during the spring and kept it somewhere cool and shady. It’s gone from being three feet to four feet! Repotting it by myself was interesting though.... it’s heavy! Will probably need some help next year.

Pipandmum · 26/11/2019 14:28

Potted means they've lifted it from the ground and alot of the roots will have been cut off. A container grown tree means the roots haven't been disturbed. It's why potted trees are much harder to keep alive.

dementedpixie · 26/11/2019 14:29

I'm surprised mine survived as it was blown over several times during windy weather and is now slightly lopsided in the pot. I'm nominating dh to drag it round the front of the house this year as its bloody heavy.

billybagpuss · 26/11/2019 14:37

I have one solely for outside, they lose their protection when they are brought indoors, if you have it indoors already it’s unlikely to survive.

But it does look stunning, yes do repot it when Christmas is over and regularly watered and keep fingers crossed.

dementedpixie · 26/11/2019 14:40

Oh yeah, mine hasn't been inside at all. We have an artificial one for indoors and the potted one for decorating outside the front door
