My son 7 has recently taken into drawing and colouring. After me getting rid of all our paints etc last year as he had no interest. So I'm thinking of making him a wee art hamper but not sure what to put in it. Hes a very young 7 due to some SEN.

My son who is also 7 has SEN and he's also very much into drawing. I bought him pencils from studio which were personalised with his name and a craylo art carry case, a couple of note books and a personalized minecraft pencil case.

Mine love blow pens, stencils, spirograph, stamos, some art books "how to draw cute things" so maybe something he would like. Dd got a set of pencils - 60 Faber castell ones from Amazon that are still on offer for about £10. Maybe a sketch book to keep all his pictures together

These poster paint pens were fantastic for us for years. I can’t recommend them enough. They never ran out and had lots and lots of use from about 6-9yo. Ds has probable dyspraxia so I understand what you’re saying about being a young 7yo. Here is the link:

Also, shrinkles are good (colour them in, put them in the oven to harden and make key rings etc out of them)

Melissa and Doug Stained glass art sticker sets are also fab

What about some stamps and ink pad? Again, Melissa and Doug are great for this. They do quite substantial stamp sets which are easier to hold than the smaller ones such as they single letter stamps

Melissa and Doug also do very good value sticker pads. The make a face ones (loads of variety from traditionally boyish to traditionally girly) and make a meal ones are good - you will be able to gauge whether they are a little young or not

Hobby craft does loads of paint your own plaster money boxes from about £2.50. They come with paints. My 11 year old still enjoys these, but they are aimed at 4+. My 7yo (severe SN) enjoys them too - he basically paints them all one colour

Play doh still great for 7 year olds I think

Mine love things like google eye stickers and things for junk modelling. Also sellotape in an easy to use dispenser so I don't have to be asked to cut it for them every time. My dd loves washi tape. Smiggle do some lovely smelly pens which they all love (probably get cheaper ones elsewhere). I got them pastels recently which were fab as new medium for them also watercolour pencils and watercolour paper which was kind of like painting for them. No gift has ever gone down as well for my kids as the mister maker craft boxes they got once which I found astounding as it was basically just some cut up bits of paper and pipe cleaners. Oh yes, also pipe cleaners, fluorescent stars etc and things in the Poundland craft aisle (also cut our cardboard people). And their own special pair of scissors went down well. DD loves a hole punch too though you may not want the 'holes' all over your floor.
