I don't usually bother with this sort of thing, but I do like the Christmas table to look nice.

I fancy a sort of "white with pine sprigs and pine cones", but can't seem to find exactly what I'm looking for. So basically white, dark green, natural brown. Does this sound horrible? Should I just go with bright red and white, with a sort of Scandi look? Or dark red and gold? Or navy?

Please tell me about your plans .. Smile

I don't usually bother with a dressy table either but this year we have a new table and i really want to do something nice (previous tables too small)...i already have a plain green garland and plan on decorating it with silver baubles and pine cones, although i am struggling to find unscented pine cones in bags bigger than 6 cones 🙄 we have some candlesticks and fake candles to put on the table too and i will feed some lights around the garland.

I think your colours sound nice, does it match the rest of your decorations?

White, blue and silver. Our Denby plates have blue rims so it has stemmed from that. White cloth, silver runner, blue placemats, silver candles.

Batshittery · 22/11/2019 18:39

Same as every year. White table cloth, red chargers, white crockery, 3 small red candles in gold trimmed glass (think they are called a votive)
I think white with pines sounds lovely and fresh.

AreWeAnywhereNear · 22/11/2019 18:42

Mine is always eclectic and which ever crockery has the least chips on 🙈

Every year I intend to go for a colour scheme and every year I run out of time/forget/get bored/find the baileys and it ends up a mish mash - we all have a great time & the foods fab Wink

White table cloth, white napkins, plain white dishes. A crimson velvet runner, and a totally ineptly handmade centrepiece of fresh holly, ivy, pine branches, eucalyptus, oranges with cloves in, pine cones and cinnamon sticks which looks festive despite its crappiness. Tea lights in small glass holders with tiny gold stars on them. We have 8 for dinner so that's basically the entire table surface completely covered!

Trumpton · 22/11/2019 19:08

We are having white plates on silver chargers and a peacock blue lamé runner over a white cloth . White napkins tied with peacock ribbons .
No other decoration on table as it will be full of food . Oh silver crackers trimmed with the same peacock ribbons .

Bluntness100 · 22/11/2019 19:11

I don't do this and everyone would think I'd gone all hyacinth bouquet if I did.

I do use the best crockery though which is white, good glasses, and use Xmas napkins and put out expensive crackers.

But I wouldn't do a themed table and don't know any one who does.

Canklesforankles · 22/11/2019 19:14

We sometimes make a centrepiece but it all has to come off as there is so much food.
The kids lay the table (with help when small) Christmas Eve and the candles, napkins, glasses look lovely. so different from our usual mess of plates, papers, homework etc

DoesItGetAnyBetter · 22/11/2019 19:17

Gold and Navy with large peacock coloured baubles as decorative accessories.

Mummyilovejokes1 have you tried somewhere like Baker Ross? They are usually quite good for bits like pine cones. X

Thisnamechanger · 22/11/2019 19:18

I love how different we all are on here. I don't own a table!

MairzyDoats · 22/11/2019 19:18

Something like this OP?

What kind of colour scheme are you going for on your Christmas table?
Batshittery · 22/11/2019 19:25

I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I have 'special' crockery, glasses and cutlery that only comes out for special occasions! It's the only time we use the dining room for eating.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 22/11/2019 19:27

Piles and piles of food is my scheme. Other than that it's fairly laissez-faire

Mummyilovejokes1 · 22/11/2019 19:28

@DoesItGetAnyBetter no i haven't but i will take a look, thank you Smile

egontoste · 22/11/2019 19:30

Red, green and gold, same as every other year, same table cloth, same mats etc etc, the only thing that changes every year is the crackers - don't know what they will be like, as I haven't bought them yet.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 22/11/2019 19:36

White cloth, the 'best' crockery (white and blue), red or green candles, vase of ivy etc foraged from garden at last minute, crackers that are usually mostly red or gold, total non-matching mats to put the food on. It sounds a bit of a shambles, but it looks lovely.

Lostintransfixation · 22/11/2019 19:43

Silver and white - sparkly white table cloth, silver place mats, small xmas scene centre piece that I light with a tiny string of lights (ikea are best). With silver and white you can add another colour if you want
I don't. Nothing expensive but it's one of the few opportunities I get to be a bit creative and have my efforts appreciated. I really really don't think it's necessary though. I just enjoy doing it. I collect something for the table each year.

Chottie · 22/11/2019 19:43

I like to ring the changes and it will be one of the following colour themes
Red, gold and green
Green, silver and gold
Red, gold, purple and blue
Red, gold and silver
White, silver and gold

Chottie · 22/11/2019 19:46

Just to add we eat in the dining room and all the pictures are decorated with holly and there are candles all around the room. As we eat 'lunch' at about 4.00pm on Christmas Day we always eat by candlelight :)

BennyTheBall · 22/11/2019 19:47

I do white with lots of silver. I have glass chargers and white crockery. I do a green/white berry centre piece, loads of candles and frosted rosemary on the napkins.

BarbedBloom · 22/11/2019 21:24

Silver and navy this year.

Barbararara · 22/11/2019 21:47

Have you had a browse on Pinterest @sw

Barbararara · 22/11/2019 21:53

Sorry posted too soon.

I think your scheme sounds lovely. Have you thought about napkins, crackers and plates and how these will impact the colour scheme.

Setting the table is my favourite part of Christmas. I can spend ages at it, pretending to slave over the dinner when really I’m just faffing about wrapping the napkins with sprigs of rosemary and other daftness.

Courtney555 · 23/11/2019 01:04

Crisp white yabley linen. Having been sucked into the Spode Christmas service on sale, I bought the full set for about £130 and that will get it's first outing this year. Table runner also in white. Buy about 3 blocks of oasis, line up 3-4ft length ways and fill with greenery and berries from the garden, and wedge candles in. Good glasses.
