Hi all

Just asking the above really, DD is 4 in January and loves babies. I've bought a couple of OG dolls and accessories but now at wondering if I should hold them back for a year....

What are your experiences of the best ages for them please?

Mil bought our dd one for her 3rd birthday and tbh it doesn't get much play, she much prefers baby dolls which is what I told her dd wanted, but all the baby dolls were horrible apparently, oh well. Anyway they are nice dolls but if she is happy with baby dolls I'd personally stick to that for now. I know an 8 year old who loves OG dolls but wouldn't be seen dead with a baby doll now.

Bogiesaremyonlyfriend · 21/11/2019 19:09

I think it depends on her role play skills! Dd1 wasn't great at role play and was very functional- so would look after a baby but og was a bit out of her experience at that age, whereas dd2 is much more imaginative and loved her og dolls from around 4 and still plays with them now. Her cousin is obsessed - she has had them since 4 and they are her most loved toys, she has 3 dolls now and loads of extras.

Autumntoowet · 21/11/2019 19:12

Oh I quite like these dolls 🤭
They don’t sell them in my country, are they new?
Are they American?
Because there is one that has a name that we have chosen for DD

I'd say they were more popular with ages 7 plus. Have you looked at baby Annabelle, and cry babies magic tears?

Kuponut · 21/11/2019 19:23

My 6 year old has been into them for about the last year

ForMySorrow · 21/11/2019 19:30

My daughter loved hers at 6 and 7.

Patchworksack · 21/11/2019 19:30

My daughter (now 5.5) has had one (actually a Sindy 18" doll) since she was 4 and is getting another for Christmas. She loves hers - we got one that looks like her and the new one looks like her best friend. The only annoying thing is being asked to change the clothes all the time as they can be a bit fiddly. She has school uniform from Frilly Lilly and we used the doll loads for social stories before starting school.

Barbararara · 21/11/2019 20:01

At 4 dd was still more attached to soft bodied dolls and cuddly things in general. We got OG dolls around 7. I imagine it’s a very individual thing.

Drizzzle · 21/11/2019 20:28

Yes you are, wait a couple of years

livingthegoodlife · 21/11/2019 20:34

I bought my four year old one last year, sgevis still playing with it now she is five. Has cute changes of clothes and camping set etc.

I think it depends on the child, mine is particularly mature as she has two older siblings.

Nearlyadoctor · 21/11/2019 20:36

My dd was 8 when she first had one and had another for the next 2 years at Christmas plus outfits etc

Jowak1 · 21/11/2019 20:58

My daughter who is 9 has. Even playing with them for a couple of years now. She was never into the baby dolls but loves the Our Generation dolls and all the little accessories. Obviously everyone is different but I'd personally wait, I see them as an older girl doll x

Jowak1 · 21/11/2019 20:58

Has been playing with them

inwood · 21/11/2019 21:00

Mine got American girl dolls for their fifth birthday, barely played with them at all. Now they are seven they love them and play with them all the time. Id hold off for a bit.

TheGirlWhoLived · 21/11/2019 23:09

Dd2 is 5 and got one last year (when she was 4) she absolutely loves it, dresses it up in its gym outfit and it’s pajamas, apparently it is the older sister to baby annabelle I was told (by her) today- so I think it is child dependent! I would hold back on some of the larger accessories (horses stable or school etc)

parrotonmyshoulder · 22/11/2019 18:40

Mine had Lottie dolls at 5 and OG at about 7-9.

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 23/11/2019 09:14

My 6 yo has just progressed from baby dolls to OG dolls and Barbie's. At four she would definitely have preferred something like Baby Annabelle. She probably would have been excited to open an OG doll at that age but don't think it would have been played with much after Christmas day.

ItStartedWithAKiss241 · 23/11/2019 09:18

My 4yo DD likes them but would choose baby dolls. I have DD6 and DD10 too who play with OurGeneration so she may be trying to join in with them. She does like Barbie which is role play and not baby doll too tho? My DD is just turned 4. X

ElsasSalamander · 23/11/2019 09:27

My DD just got an OG doll for her 5th Birthday - she loves it & it’s currently going everywhere with her! We bought an accessory set with a pot (plaster cast) & so she can pretend she has a broken leg. She’s also really enjoying doing her hair.

Teateaandmoretea · 23/11/2019 09:34

My two lost all interest in any dolls by the age of 5. Who are these 7 year olds who play with dolls? 🤷🏻‍♀️. Not meaning to sound negative but it's a different perspective as if you don't buy her them now she may never be interested. Happy to be told my girls aren't normal. But I have a 7 year old who wouldn't be remotely interested in og dolls.

What a nasty comment!

TempestHayes · 23/11/2019 19:08

They're a bit heavy for 4, and the idea is dressing/undressing them and pretend play but as a 'playmate' aged thing, not caring for a baby. Baby dolls are a bit more successful at that age, and easier to lift/hold too.

My 7 year old still plays with dolls and is getting a second OG for Xmas.

Selfcarequeereyestyle · 23/11/2019 19:44

My 9 year old (10 in Jan) asked for and will be getting another one this year. Her brother who is nearly 7 also plays with them and will be getting his own this year. I was reluctant to get them this year but they have played so nicely with the ones they already have during the year that I thought it wouldn’t hurt. They like to make pretend YouTube videos with them!

inwood · 23/11/2019 23:39

That's a nasty comment @Teateaandmoretea plenty play with dolls after that age and why shouldn't they?

ParkheadParadise · 23/11/2019 23:59

Dd (4) is getting baby Annabelle. My great niece (6) is getting a OG doll for Christmas.
