My boy is 3 in early January and I’ve got him a few things but I’m worried it’s not enough. What have you ladies got your DS?
I’ve got him so far (he is paw patrol mad)

Paw patrol lookout tower and characters (got off Facebook second hand)
2 pairs of paw patrol pjs and dressing gown
A (you guessed it) paw patrol sit on driving simulator
A microphone on a stand
Marshall soft toy
A radio controlled JCB
A paw patrol(!) torch
A paw patrol (surprise!) lunch box filled with sweets
The paw patroller (god I hope he still likes paw patrol in a month!)

I’m going to get him some books and sweets for his Christmas Eve box and maybe little stocking fillers if I see them.
But does this seem enough? I see huge piles of all the presents people have bought their little ones and feel like this doesn’t look much. It’ll add up to around £200 and we only have a small house with not much storage space and I have no idea where we’re going to put some of these toys as it is!

My son will be 3.4yrs at Christmas.

He's getting a bundle of wooden toys, a Playmobil set, book bundle, clothes bundle, and randomly a Tom and Jerry mug and eggcup. He's become obbsessed by the retro pair!

I would say that you've got enough. You've spent quite a lot, and it absolutely doesn't matter what the size of other people's piles are. Anymore, an at his age I would imagine he would be overwhelmed.

Talkthirtytome · 20/11/2019 00:12

@1stTimeMama I couldn’t help but laugh at the egg cup! Don’t they get weird obsessions at this age. My boy other than paw patrol is absolutely obsessed with Humpty Dumpty.. but you don’t see many things with him on! 😂
You’ve made me feel better, thank you. I panic about not getting him enough but also where the hell I am going to put it all apart from the garage as soon as Boxing Day comes round! x

That’s loads. I got my 2.7 year old some nice books in Aldi today- they have some good stocking fillers

Talkthirtytome · 20/11/2019 00:16

@redbirdblackbird I’ll have a look in Aldi, thank you! x

@Talkthirtytome I had to resort to eBay to find something!

I think it's perfectly normal to think it's never enough. I know exactly what it's like. And with not having the space, I have 4 children, none of them ever want to part with any of their toys, and they still ask for more each birthday and Christmas! I need another house just to put it all in.

QueenoftheDay · 20/11/2019 00:51

That’s loads Shock

QueenWhatevs · 20/11/2019 00:55

DS is 2.8. He's getting a small Lego set, hungry hippos, a second hand Cry Baby doll
(To stop him stealing his sisters), Spider-Man on a motorbike, new books,.chocolate, a lightning mcqueen electric toothbrush and new (fun character) socks and PJs.

You've bought loads, they get overwhelmed by too many gifts in one go.

HuloBeraal · 20/11/2019 00:59

Mine is getting almost nothing in comparison. Magnatiles from Father Christmas. Two Happyland sets (one from us and one from my sister). And books. That is all.
My kids have hundreds of books (I really do mean hundreds) and enough toys so they don’t need much more. He also has a big brother so has a lot of train tracks and cars and what have you. He’s having maybe 150 spent on him and that includes us and my sister. Same for his big brother who is nearly 8 and getting a marble run, a board game and lots of books. I have learned that a) I don’t care how little my kids have. They are enormously privileged. b) If I am going to spend money then it has to be on vaguely long lasting toys. I bought my first Happyland set for DC1 nearly 7 years ago. He played with it and now his brother plays with it regularly. My only worry would be with something like this paw patrol thing is that if in 3 months he moved on to something else you’ve spent 200 quid on something lying in a corner.

Emeraldshamrock · 20/11/2019 01:04

It is plenty though a ball always goes down well at that age.
My DS loved the puppy who walks and barks when he was 2.5.

DreamingofSunshine · 20/11/2019 08:07

That's plenty. I find the photos of huge hauls rather tasteless, and very overwhelming for young children. Last year I hid some of his presents and got them out later in the year.

DS is 2.5 and is getting:

2nd hand balance bike
Wooden toy animals
2 axel scheffler books
2ndhand brio type train set
A Christmas rubber duck for the bath
A snow globe

Last 3 will be in his stocking.

Autumntoowet · 20/11/2019 08:10

That is a lot.
I am getting a book and puzzle
Maybe a remote control car
And some art stuff

Birthday in the spring he will get a bike.

They don’t need all that stuff that will end up in landfill.

Howmanysleepsnow · 20/11/2019 09:24

Mine tend to get 8 presents: main gift, board game, extra 2 toys, 3 books, craft/ science set. Plus stockings: stationery, chocolate, bath stuff, satsuma, stickers/ cards/ small figures. Wrapped up it seems loads. It’s all from Santa except one toy which is from us.

BouquetOfRoses · 20/11/2019 10:32

Jigsaws
Books
Art things - paint pens, new crayons, sticker & colouring in book
Toy xylophone & musical instrument set
Clothes & accessories for dressing up box
Superhero dolls
Disney princess dolls

Sammi38 · 20/11/2019 11:02

My DS is 2 1/2 and he’ll be getting from us;

A peppa pig wooden little house and figures.
A kitchen with accessories and play food
2 baby dolls
Toy double pushchair
A set of small plush teddies

Elphaba17 · 20/11/2019 17:12

That sounds like loads to me. DS will be getting:

Paw patroller
Sky, Marshall and Zuma basic vehicles
Thomas trackmaster set
Wooden alphabet puzzle
Fire engine
Wooden playfood for his kitchen
Orchard toys dominoes

I'll also get a book, character socks and pants, new toothbrush, sweets, crayons and stickers for stocking.

SinkGirl · 20/11/2019 17:16

I have twin 3yo boys who are both autistic and I’m really at a loss. They have no idea what Christmas is or gifts are so they don’t care but I would love to get them something they love. Problem is they don’t love much of anything, no imaginary play yet, limited play skills.... it’s tricky. Will be watching to see if I can get any good ideas!

I think that’s loads though

poorlymatchedsocks · 20/11/2019 17:27

My ds has just turned 3 a couple of weeks ago so bit hard but he's obsessed with dinosaurs. I've got him everything on sale and only spent about £60

-woody and buzz light year

  • 3 paw patrol cars
  • dinosaur excavation
-talking bird that replies -dinosaur backpack
  • paint dinosaurs
  • dinosaur bag that you colour
-dinosaur wall chart -10 dinosaur books -4 little games as he's now getting into board games etc -dinosaur pyjamas
user1480880826 · 20/11/2019 17:52

That’s a very long list of toys. Why do you think it’s not enough? My nearly 3 year old won’t be getting that much (and not because we can’t afford it)

user1374384 · 20/11/2019 22:22

Mine had a December birthday so for both birthday and Christmas I have:

Wooden London bus with people
Rubber interlocking road track pieces
Metal Paw Patrol vehicles set
Paw Patroller fold out true metal compatible version
Paw patrol fluffy pyjamas
Paw Patrol umbrella
Duplo fire engine
Duplo tow truck
Wooden marble run
Books
Wooden till

I think that is everyrhing. The hard part is splitting the list into two and deciding which for which day.

Letsbegin · 21/11/2019 07:13

My DS is 2.7 hes getting:
Remote control bumper cars to share with DS6
Mini micro scooter
Julia donaldson book
Robo alive spider
Large (5foot) stuffed dinosaur - 2nd hand
Few clothes and colouring bits.

BabyCountDown · 21/11/2019 07:28

@SinkGirl maybe we could help with ideas? What do they play with now?

magnarocks · 21/11/2019 08:20

Bought a VTech Kidizoom camera for our almost 3 year old as his 'big pressie' as he's obsessed with looking at photos and telling me to take photos.

Following this thread with interest.

StandardLampski · 21/11/2019 09:26

Aaggh. I'm still drawing a blank from reading this... 2.8 at christmas, second child. Loves his toy kitchen...and basically playing with whatever older sister has! Got books and jigsaw so far ....

Parker231 · 21/11/2019 09:29

When my DS was that age he loved the kitchen he had for Christmas. It was lovely - wooden- took DH and I ages to set up but it lasted for years, got passed on to our neighbours and is now at the local playgroup so great for avoiding plastic into landfill.

IdblowJonSnow · 21/11/2019 09:32

He has no frame of reference so itll seem loads to him. Maybe sack off the xmas eve presents and save everything till xmas morn?
What about something that he can colour or paint? Activity book or set? Just something inexpensive.
