I was thinking about making some homemade gifts for the teachers at dc school for Christmas instead of buying something and am looking for recommendations... Am thinking maybe nigellas gingerbread or biscotti... It would you do both?

Just a handmade card and, if you love the teacher, a thoughtful email to the head teacher explaining why!

As a secondary teacher I got 1(!) card last year, hand made by an incredibly talented artist student. It is proudly displayed on my desk.

A card is enough, honestly.

It's a rare teacher who eats homemade goods I'm afraid.

Stationery supplies. £5 in poundland goes a long way on prit stick, pencils and marker pens.

@GuyFawkesDay I can confirm that those biscuits would be lucky to make it beyond break time, never mind JanuaryGrin

No one expects anything, but it's lovely when parents buy for the staff room as it's a whole host of people that make the school - not just the teachers but TAs, office staff, caretakers, volunteers etc.

Get your child to draw a picture of the teacher or TA....like A5
This x1000!

I have been teaching a long time and still have one of these that was done for me in 1998!

Cards I can take or leave-they take up space and end up in the recycling, but a letter or picture (5 letters/small pictures can be kept for years without taking up room unlike lots of bulky cards with, ‘to teacher, love x’ in. One child wrote me a really short poem in a letter once-it was lovely! Doesn’t even have to be on card-paper is fine!

If you’re busy or skint though, don’t do or buy anything except maybe stop and say, ‘thank you’ in person to the teacher and wish her a nice holiday.

I'd eat a homemade teacher gift if it came with a label on that said something like 'I scrubbed the kids before we made this and they didn't put their hands anywhere near it' - something funny to acknowledge that they might be wary of eating it and reassuring there are no stealth bogies baked in.
