Who has had a small baby at Christmas time? My baby will be coming up to 3 months at Christmas. Have people done anything for their little ones being so small or doing anything this year? Not sure if I should or not or if people have any ideas/advice?

Had a three month old at Christmas last year. Dressed them up for my own entertainment and to help the festive vibe at playgroup etc, and got them a present but that was more for show for my older children to see me being fair. Other than that it was Christmas as usual.

Do what will please you but they won't have the foggiest idea what's going on, so don't waste money!

My daughter was born 6th December. We still did a stocking (a bath book, Sophie giraffe, bubble bath, wipes). We got a bumbo , a swing chair and a few outfits. However we do have an older son. Do what feels right for you. Maybe some stacking cups, bath toys or a high chair?

Dd2 was 5 months last Christmas. We wrapped some books individually for under the tree, and her stocking had things like first toothbrush, sippy cup etc in. She really didn't need any toys etc but dd1 would have been confused if we hadnt done any presents.

My mum bought her a lovely dress she wore over Christmas, and I also bought her a Christmas tree decoration with her name on which I will enjoy remembering as from her first Christmas. Mostly she enjoyed the lights and the paper!

My daughter was 2 months old on her first Xmas. She had a festive outfit, and I bought her some presents - soft books, rattles, tummy time pillow, teething things etc - stuff I would be getting anyway. I also got a couple of toys for 6months +, so she had things for later on. But I love Christmas, and enjoy the shopping and wrapping etc so appreciate it was largely for my benefit and she slept through most of it lol.

Now at 2 years old she finds looking back at the photos of her first Xmas funny, recognises herself and knows what presents are - so she finally appreciates the effort!

A baby hasnt the first clue so do what you want for your own needs but dont think its for the child

We had a lovely first Xmas with our dc. They had no idea what was going on but 10 years later enjoy looking at photos of themselves dressed as Xmas puddings, snowmen etc.

My DS was 5 months last Christmas. We didn't get him any presents as we knew that everyone else would go overboard! He's the first grandchild on both sides so was quite spoilt!

I did get him an elf outfit and Christmas jumper, which he wore on the day and to baby groups etc in the run up. Took lots of lovely photos of him looking cute and grabbing at presents, wrapping paper and ribbons.

Mine was 4 and a half months. He had a couple of festive outfits, met Santa and got presents including a stocking. We also left out a little something for Santa and Rudolph on Xmas eve.

We're getting one or things she needs anyway (well, "needs") or things she already has but aren't in use yet, and wrapping them for our own entertainment I suppose, or to make the tree look nice – we'll be with extended family. Dinner will be minimal/lack the usual full trimmings as she won't have the foggiest and we'd all rather have the time to spend with her than cook.

I figure we've got plenty of Christmases ahead to do stockings from Father Christmas and traditions and presents. This one will be special just because it's her first.

owlofathena · 15/11/2019 15:37

My daughter was 8 weeks her first Christmas. I dressed her in a nice outfit for the day but both of us spent most of the day sleeping. My sister made her a stocking and filled it with ready made formula bottles and the next size teats for her bottles. Was the best present ever!
My second child is due this Christmas eve, we aren't doing anything for their first Christmas.

I bought a little Santa outfit from eBay (DS was 7 months), some bits and bobs I would have bought anyway such as sleepsuits, a walker and a few toys- and wrapped them, and although he had no idea what was going on, he seemed to enjoy ripping it off and we got some lovely photos. Baby group also did a handprint bauble saying 1sr Christmas which was lovely. Also got a stocking to reuse again and again.

My baby was less than 3 months old last Christmas. I put her in a red and white outfit (DP's sister bought it for her) and we went to DP's family. They all had lots of cuddles with her. I had half a glass of wine and fell asleep in a chair for an hour. Win win.

Honestly there's no need for a fuss imo. I did buy a little tree ornament for her with her birthdate as a keepsake from the local market which I'm glad I did.

mistermagpie · 15/11/2019 16:08

I'm being induced tonight (eek!) so my baby will be a months ish old at Christmas. I'm going to get it a personalised stocking, but that's purely because my two other kids have one, and will probably dress it up in a cute baby grow for my entertainment. We won't do presents because that would be a bit silly.

EvenPhilip · 15/11/2019 16:15

I don't think it registers until they are at least 2 years old.
Like @dreichwinter says it's nice when they look back at photos of when you dressed them up as puddings etc Smile
What I'd give to have a little person rather than a 17 year old this Christmas.

EvenPhilip · 15/11/2019 16:16

Good luck @mistermagpie Grin

WhatALearningCurve · 15/11/2019 16:38

My little one will be 9 months at Christmas. I've got him some clothes for the next size up but mostly i've got him little keepsake things, so a Christmas sack that i'll use each year, a first Christmas decoration, a blanket made out of his newborn clothes etc. Things he won't appreciate now but things that will hopefully hold sentimental value in the years to come. I've got a huge family so I know that he'll get toys and things off them so i'm trying to limit what I buy (my house is tiny ha).

I like the idea of practical things so that you can feel like you've done a stocking or whatever but filled with things like toothbrush / sippy cup etc

OlderthenYoungerNow · 15/11/2019 16:43

Some people gave us presents when she born in June that were suitable for 6months + and I saved and wrapped them up because I'm a tight arse and I didn't want the waste. I have a fairly large family though so knew she'd get bits from various uncles, aunts, grandparents etc.

I hate the dressing up of babies for Halloween or Christmas and all that shit but again, I'm a tight arse and that's just me. I also hate waste.
