We are going to London at the end of November with my 4 year old dad. We will be there for three days
. I've booked the xmas circus show in Hyde Park Winter Wonderland for one of the days and am wondering if anyone could recommend where else could go....alot of stuff begins in December! I looked at the Raymond Briggs Xmas show and at Matilda or the Sniwman but I wonder if she's too young for them...I would really love a nice grotto and Santa experience but again alot of them are in December.... any tips are really welcome...thanks....

Not Christmassy but my 5 year old loved going into tower bridge and walking over the glass walkway. It was a really interesting few hours for both of us and not too expensive either.

Santa's Grotto at Westfield Stratford is open from 21 Nov. You need to book:

These are the kiddie facilities at Westfield:

Shame your visit isn't in the summer as there's the most amazing playground at the Olympic Park (even as an adult, I'm quite jealous) but it will be a bit chilly in Nov.

Not Christmassy but we’re taking our four year old to see Stick Man somewhere near Leicester Square, and I’ve also seen The Tiger Who Came to Tea advertised.

Mine loves the Transport Museum, which is 2for1 on National Rail vouchers. Oh, and if you end up at the western end of Hyde Park (be warned, it’s massive), the Princess Diana Memorial Playground is a great option.

Not Christmassy but my (then 5yo) loved the national history museum when we went to London. So much to see!

Again, not Christmassy but I also recommend the Transport Museum in Covent Garden. It is fabulous, as is the Science Museum.
The Natural History Museum offers kids only ice skating sessions (you can book online), which could be a lot of fun and a much nicer experience if it's just for younger skaters.

Christmas at Kew is magical and begins on 20th November this year. www.kew.org/kew-gardens/whats-on/christmas
There’s a ballet version of The Snowman which is stunning www.sadlerswells.com/whats-on/2019/the-snowman/

We took our then two and four year olds to the Snowman ballet a couple of years ago and they both lived it. We were a bit worried about the younger one, but they were totally enthralled and it isn’t very long.

Trips to Hamleys and the lights of Oxford St/Regents St are always good.

As others have mentioned, the museums are also a good call. The Science museum has a lovely basement area for little ones with water play etc. We also recently visited the Transport Museum and that proved very popular with my 4&7 year olds.

Bear in mind that the shops will be very, very busy and Hamleys may be rammed. They usually have a queuing system for getting in.

We took my DD to London to see Matilda when she was 4yo and she absolutely loved it. She still talks about it two years on. She also loved Buckingham Palace, the Natural History Museum and the London Eye.

BlueLadybird · 15/11/2019 13:49

You could take a bus along Oxford/Regent St to see the lights. Just a normal bus, double decker ideally.
