I'm trying to be sensible this year because when I look at some of last years unopened presents or presents rarely played with I don't want to "waste" money and buy for the sake of buying.
DD doesn't really play with toys any more. She will watch the toy adverts and put things on her list to Father Christmas for her to decide they aren't that much fun once she has them (ie fingerlings, walking dog, flying fairy etc)
I know some of DD's friends will have piles of things to open Christmas day and we could probably buy DD lots too but if they are not played with is it better to spend the money on other things throughout the year or just buy toys even if they are only going to be played with once or twice?
Some of her friends are still into toys and some are like DD and prefer make up etc.
Would it be wrong for father Christmas to bring some clothes so she's got a few more items to open? Or even things for her hobbies?
What have you got your 9 year old girls.
So far I have:
Make up
Perfume
Bath bombs
Slime
New earrings.

Thanks

Not at all, you could get a couple of toys (maybe one or two), but if you don't think that she will play with them then what is the point? what are her hobbies, maybe we could suggest some alternative things based on them?

My DC admittedly have always had a pile of gifts a christmas but apart from a few gifts on birthdays they dont get anything all year unless its an emergency. So, yes I put clothes in some winter and some summer, new electric toothbrush etc. So basically things they would get anyway but wrapped for Christmas instead. I wouldnt buy anything I knew would be unused.

I hate toy advertisements and did everything in my power to avoid them but they would manage to see them on play dates or in the cinema and then get their heart set on some unsuitable rubbish.

Our way was to limit them to asking for one thing only and then Santa brought surprises as well - toys I knew would be played with or that would bring their play on a level. Frankly I pick far better stuff than they do.

I’ve included all sorts over the years. One year ds got a coat (because he was having an issue coping with changing from his old coat) that was a “real arctic jacket” matching the mini figures in his lego set, handmade by the elves of course. He was so proud of that coat!

Dd got clothes and matching ones for her dolls several years running. She’s also been more inclined towards things like telescopes/microscopes/magnets, crystal growing kits and those types of sets rather than toys. I’ve often given some sports and hobby related things too. Santa is quite flexible in our house.
