Beyblades

My son has repeatedly asked for Beyblades for Christmas. We have decided against buying them, but my mum wants to buy some for him as they are what he really wants (or thinks he wants!).

I have done some research this evening and there seem to be lots of different types available, as well as several different arenas.

If anyone’s children have any of these, can you suggest what would be good things to start with, and do we actually need an arena to play with the Beyblades?

TIA

Bumping in the hope of traffic. My grandson just 11has asked for Beyblades. I get the impression that an arena is necessary really and older DGS says that the metal beyblades are better than the plastic ones. I'm confused after trawling Amazon. Looks like they need to come from China. I'm slightly worried about safety. Mmm.Hope someone comes along who can help.

Thanks reckless. Yes, I can only find plastic ones actually sold in the UK and have similar concerns about the ones from China.

My brother used to have Beyblades about 15 years ago, he didnt have the arena. He just used to play with them on the kitchen floor, or a plastic tray.
I'm amazed they are still a thing.

I guess they're just a modern version of spinning tops. I think I might just order them from China and hope for the best.

Hamleys have some, we had them years ago and got the arena which makes it easier to battle.

I remember helping my aunt track these down about 10-11 years ago for my cousin who is now 22years. They were that years must have toy.

I just bought a set from ebay I cant seem to do a link but if you type in
4x-Boxed-bayblade-Beyblade-Burst-Set-With-Launcher-Arena-Metal-Fight-Battle, it will come up. It was £10.99 with free delivery and arrived two days later.

My 19 yo and 21 yo loved these as kids. We had loads.
Metal ones are better, you need a few for battles do get more than 1.

Equimum · 12/11/2019 19:07

MrsCrimbo I think I’m just wary of the safety of those, but they are tempting given the price difference. So your look well made and okay? If so, I might rethink my reservations, as I suspect the novelty will soon wear off whatever we pay!

My son LOVES beyblades and from my perspective, they are pretty much the only toys (along with Nerfs!) that still gets played with regularly years later! He’s almost 11 now and got them when he was 8 I think.

Metal ones are better apparently but he has a mix of both and he and friends enjoy trading them too. We have an arena which gets used all the time but in honesty it’s just a plastic tub. It has a domed base to make the beyblades move towards each other but I’m sure you can find an alternative or just on a hard floor but they do break apart in battles so the arena keeps it all contained too.

They are good fun toys...we’ve been known to have family battle contests!

Thanks CoffeeChocolateWine. That’s interesting and I can see that it is something my husband would have fun with too. There is a Hasbro set on Amazon and quite a few metal sets, second-hand, on eBay. My mum is keen to buy what he wants, so I think we’ll go with one of them.
