Ok so long story short I'm really struggling on what to get my father for Christmas. Everyone gets him the typical aftershave, clothes excetra. He doesnt drink,he doesn't golf or anything like that. Plus my budget is extremely low at the moment. There is nothing he needs, and whatever he does need everyone else will just get it for him anyway. I'm incredibly stuck and totally open to ideas

Socks.

Do you have a tkmaxx near you? Their food items are perfect for the person who has everything. All sorts of interesting stuff (truffle popcorn/hot sauces/macaroons etc). A little hamper full of these bits might be nice?

Bird table, or bird bath, if he has a garden.

Hedgehog house.

Plan to do do something with him? An IOU for a day at the pub or going for a walk in a forest or organising family Olympics? IME people who have everything and can buy what they want themselves don't want more stuff, they want time with people they love

Tickets to something, maybe the two of you can go together?
That might be a bit expensive though... maybe a bottle of his favourite tipple and 2 glasses to share one with him.

A razor? I actually got an email the other day offering me a free unisex razor and only pay postage, I can send the details to you if you want. I don't want to use it.

Other ideas, hmm, pick up a basket from Iceland/Poundstretchers for £5 and fill it with festive treats, Cadbury cake bars are £1, a box of mince pies, some nice crackers etc.

Or how about a photo frame with the two of you in it or a photo book with various family photos, either of which you could do quite cheaply.

My Dad is the same. He’s my most difficult to buy for year after year after year.

I’ve done tickets for things, vouchers for restaurants, photo calendar, travel coffee mugs, novelty slippers, tools for diy projects, wine subscription.

No idea what to get this year!

Do you bake? I would do a fancy cheesecake or some biscuits. Made with love and perfect for sharing around with he Christmas visitors.

I have a nice recipe for home made toffee if you’d like it.

ohdavidattenborough · 11/11/2019 08:56

Does he support a particular charity? The RNLI have welly boot stockings that you could fill

KTCluck · 11/11/2019 09:52

I always do a hamper for my dont-need-anything aunt and uncle. Posh biscuits, chocolates, an individual Christmas cake each (aldi), nice chutney, good quality olive oil, unusual flavour crisps etc. I tend to do quite a big one with some alcohol too, as they spoil us and DD, but so far I’ve only got about £15 worth of stuff and it already looks good. If you’re on a budget a big cardboard box covered in wrapping paper is fine rather than a basket.

EleanorReally · 11/11/2019 09:55

local honey,
marmalade
local chutney,
nice cheese

@TheDuchessofDukeStreet I'd love your recipe please ☺️

I like doing hampers too. Last year I got some large Christmas gift boxes from the Card Factory but TK Maxx have some beautiful ones too. I then buy coloured tissue paper and fill with nice little bits, mostly from Aldi. Last year was miniature bottles of prosecco, scented candles, hand cream, posh crisps, nougat, jars of jam, chocolate etc. They looked lovely and were really well received and the whole thing cost under £20.

Chocrock · 13/11/2019 08:29

Ancestry DNA kit. They have 25% off at the moment

Ellmau · 13/11/2019 21:02

Does he read at all?

OneMummyToAnother · 13/11/2019 21:31

Thank you all for the ideas. I'm definitely someone who prefers something meaningful or personalised. I just get bored of buying clothes, shoes aftershave etc.
I've already bought him photo albums and put family pics in over the years, historic newspapers, personalised keepsakes. I'll definitely look into a hamper. I bought him a ex footballers auto biography a few years back for xmas and the only time he touche it was when he unwrapped it! Lol, such a nightmare buying for people who are either too picky or have everything

I'm getting mine the personalised Quality Street tin from John Lewis and choosing his favourite ones to go inside. They put the surname on, so "Thompson Street" or whatever his surname is.

My dad's surname is very rare so I'm hoping he likes it.
