Adult stocking for 50s/60s man

Howmanysleepsnow · 10/11/2019 20:58

I need inspiration! I don’t know him well, but did him a stocking last year as no one has ever bought him a Christmas present as an adult (very few as a child either). It went down so well I want to repeat it, but I’m a bit stuck. He doesn’t read (problems at school), doesn’t drink (family reasons), has horses.
Any bargainous ideas appreciated!

How lovely of you!
Premium brand shower gel
Luxury edibles like M&S chocs/biscuits
Torch
Costa coffee gift card
Classic film/comedy DVD [assuming he has some means of playing it.]
Bird feeder

Howmanysleepsnow · 10/11/2019 21:29

Am trying to limit sweets as he is trying to be healthier (doctor’s advice) but will add something small.
Bird feeder is a good call (think he prefers animals to people).
Got gloves last year. May get hand warmers/ socks.

Torch is a good call too (useful for the stables in winter?)
Not really a coffee shop type of person, more rough and ready! Maybe a flask?

Nice coffee to make at home if he's not a coffee shop kind of person? Does he do any puzzles of any sort? DH always has a sudoku book or something in his.

If you are avoiding the sweets, what about nuts/dried fruit selection?

Anything that generates warmth!
Cable ties
Belts that you can hang things off.

Topbird29 · 10/11/2019 22:38

Last year I got my friend hand warmer pads that you heat in the microwav. She walks to work so loved them. Has microwave at work so could heat then for way home too!

Charmlight · 11/11/2019 19:31

Yes flask or thermal mug? Thermal socks? Framed pic of his horse? Could take it yourrself on phone and get it printed at Boots/Timpsons.

MrOnionsBumperRoller · 11/11/2019 21:20

Hat with a built in torch? Try Groupon. You sound lovely OP.

Trewser · 11/11/2019 21:21

Hoof pick with a light on it
Horse treats
Grooming brush

DarkDarkNight · 11/11/2019 21:25

Nothing much to add above what’s already been said, but what a lovely thing you are doing. It has warmed my heart.

As a former horse rider I would definitely go with warm heat-keeping socks or a thermal hat for around the yard. A small torch as well may be an idea.

MrsBertBibby · 11/11/2019 21:30

Shops like milletts/mountain warehouse usually have a load of outdoorsy gadgets.

Socks are always good.

Oxfam has nice gifts.

Talkallday · 11/11/2019 21:38

Chocolate

These retractable-band head torches are genuinely brilliant, esp if you have to deal with animals at night and need hands free

Lovely thing you are doing.

My bloke is same age, and also out-doorsy (tho doesn’t have horses). Stuff he would like includes:

Woollen beanie-type hat
Pen
Keyring (he seems to have an infinite need for these - I remain unclear why)
Mug
Gardening stuff (seeds, gloves, twine, seed markers etc)
Birdwatching stuff (small bird book, bird journal)
Tin mug for having tea while gardening/outdoors

tinyvulture · 12/11/2019 17:24

Bird food is good, as well as the actual feeder - mine would be really happy to be presented with some fat balls, for example, and I often pick him up a bag from Poundland, much to his delight. (I assume he doesn’t eat them himself......)
