Small (physically) gifts for 1 year old's stocking

Any ideas?

I bought a personalised stocking in the January sales for DS so obviously want to put something in it this year! It's not huge though so presents will need to be small-ish which is a problem when buying for a 1 year old!

So far I've got a little metal toddler cutlery set (still on plastic spoons so far) and a light up bath disco ball thing. Probably need another 3-4 things to fill it?

What about toot toot cars? Smile

MsChatterbox · 10/11/2019 11:11

Playdough, little duplo car, treats, bubbles.

WhereverIMayRoam · 10/11/2019 11:13

Animal shaped bath sponge
Soft hairbrush
A small soft doll or teddy
Cloth book

NameChange30 · 10/11/2019 11:13

Bubbles
Small figurine type toys (DH bought DS some In The Night Garden figures when he was about that age)
A little sheet of stickers
And YY to play dough (small pot!)

Wrap up a few things they haven't played with for a while. I did this and dd never noticed BlushGrin

Other than that crayons, pjs for next year, bubble bath and a beanie toy are what dd liked most.

OrangeSwoosh · 10/11/2019 11:17

This is all new to me! Looked up the toot toot cars, they look good, he's in to pushing things back and forth at the moment!

How old do they need to be for playdoh? Currently everything gets eaten but he will turn 1 just before Christmas so we are getting bits to put away to use during the following year when he's a bit older.

He loves bubbles, that's a good shout!

Plastic bowls wooden spoon whisk and rolling pin ... Ideally with a lovely chef hat.

A neigbour bought a big set for my then 1 yr old twins.... They are 10 now and still bake with Mrs x's whisk and big wooden spoon :)

NameChange30 · 10/11/2019 11:30

Oh and one or two balloons!
DS was obsessed when he turned 1 Smile

NameChange30 · 10/11/2019 11:31

He also liked things that made sounds... a little shaky egg and bell?

GingerRogers84 · 10/11/2019 12:06

Lanka Kade wooden animals are great and not expensive. I put a handful in my DC stocking last year and are still played with daily.

Cattenberg · 10/11/2019 12:08

DD had some of the things mentioned above, plus a set of sensory balls (different colours and textures), which helped fill up the stocking quite nicely. Halilit do a good range of baby shakers.

KenDodd · 10/11/2019 12:12

This age is dead easy to buy for op. Just get them ANYTHING in their age range and they'll be happy. Merry Christmas!

lovesdaisy · 10/11/2019 12:46

Mine will be 18 months at Christmas and we’ve got him

  • a pack of punch balloons
  • choc coins (a must for any stocking)
  • a little milky bar selection pack
  • tooth brush and toothpaste to brush away the chocolate
  • some toy animal figures
  • playdough
  • stickers
  • glow sticks

And I will be throwing a clementine in on Christmas Eve

BeanBag7 · 10/11/2019 12:48

I wouldn't get playdoh for an 12 month old who still puts everything in their mouth, but I think all the other suggestions are good.
We got DD some little wooden dinosaurs with wheels for her first christmas and she liked rolling them about.

OrangeSwoosh · 10/11/2019 15:16

Thanks for the suggestions, definitely useful. It was more the physically small side of things I was struggling with! Some good suggestions for toys for "now" too, a lot of the stuff we've got for his birthday and Christmas will probably make a reappearance in the summer (once he's over his obsession with throwing things!)

My son was one and a half last year and I put in stickers, scented crayons, a colouring book (to scrawl over, obviously he can't colour in the lines yet!) Some kind of snack...

The year before when he was around eight months I put in some interesting Ella's pouches, triangular Crayola crayons, a new drinking cup and a rattle.

Wow toys do some lovely little figures, just right for small hands.

tinyvulture · 12/11/2019 16:51

Little board book? We got a stocking sized version of The Very Hungry Catterpillar for my partner’s granddaughter (also one) in Aldi last weekend - I think they had some other nice little board books too - only £2.99. And Poundland certainly used to do little Peppa Pig board books - don’t know if they still do.

Other than that:
Socks
Hat
Gloves
Scarf
Little musical instrument such as wooden castanets
Little cuddly toy
Some baby treats - DD used to like those biscuit fingers you get in the baby aisle, and also those salt-free things which resemble Wotsits a bit, again in the baby aisle. (Do you know what I mean? “Carrot sticks” and similar. Corn snacks, basically).
Bath toys, like little rubber ducks etc.
Stacking cups are also a fab toy for this age group.

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 12/11/2019 16:59

My 1yo is getting

Some gruffalo socks
A Bath book
A little bouncy ball that lights up when it hits the ground
A toot toot car
Some bubbles
A light up rubber duck for the bath

Does your DS have a set of stacking cups- they're my DS's favourite thing, he plays with them constantly and they're quite small.

BikeRunSki · 12/11/2019 17:02
