Plenty of suggestions around for kids, but let's compile a list of really special (heirloom?) books which are geared towards the older audience.

As wide a variety of subjects as possible
...whatever might help someone find an unusual gift.

The skill involved means they're not cheap, but definitely books which are always treasured and well-read.

I've had decent reductions buying 'used but like new' copies for presents.
In mint condition. You really couldn't tell they were 2nd hand.

video clips demo:

He does a Pixar smaller pop-up.

Also,

-lunar landing/ story of the space race.

(Brian May's stereoscopic viewer is a random but interesting one, too!
Features 1850s rural life scenes.
Thinking of getting it for an elderly relative, to remind her of her childhood home)

His , history of the band, looks good.

Add any you like.

There are some lovely ones that aren't pop up but are moving pictures of animals, can't remember the artist, they look amazing for any age.

I wish I knew some, hope others will share

We have The Harry Potter book by Matthew Reinhart it really is amazing.

We have had for years Wizard of Oz by Robert Sabuda, impressive it has lasted so long with no damage.

And not a pop up book but this www.amazon.co.uk/Game-Thrones-Mask-Targaryen-Dragon/dp/1780977778/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=game+of+thrones+mask+book&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1573380609&sr=8-3 is good for any GoT / paper craft fans.

Just posted about this but The Little Prince pop up book is beautiful! Quite simple in terms of pop up engineering though, perhaps?

This looks a nice idea.

An alternative to receiving a bouquet (no need to find a vase, either!), and handy for anyone with limited mobility, or lack of space, to keep within reach.

"Birds In A Book", Lesley Earle and Rachel Grant

Thanks for everyone's suggestions so far.

Ooh, finally a subject I know about!

Robert Sabuda’s books are technically for children, but genuinely lovely for adults too, eg his Alice in Wonderland.

Niroot Puttapipat’s version of The Night Before Christmas is mostly done in silhouette, a la Rackham, but the final page is a glorious pop up of Father Christmas in his sleigh above rooftops.

His Nutcracker has a similar format and beautiful colours.

If you like paper cutting as well as pop up, there are lovely things in various versions of Jan Pienkowski, or the Signature Shakespeare books, or the recent Snow Queen version by Laura Barrett.

We have Moby Dick by Sam Ita. It's very impressive and aimed at older children/adults.

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 11/11/2019 19:27

Your ideas are really inspired.
Thanks, all.
Wish I could buy the lot!

Do, please, keep adding unusual books to our list.
Smaller, more budget-friendly ones, too, and links to good bargains especially appreciated.
