Hello everyone

I am looking for a gift for my 8 year old god daughter and I really am stuck. In previous years it's been relatively easy, but I think she's at the age now where I don't want to miss the mark by getting something a bit "babyish" but also she's not quite a big girl yet IYSWIM.

Parents have been asked and it's a bit oh anything really which isn't helpful as I don't know any other children her age so have no idea what's "in"

Please help me! My budget is between £10-£20

Not sure if you'd be up for buying a couple of smaller gifts but I've just seen a toy called the Magical following Pig, it's fabulous! Might get my dd one, she's a teen.

I don't mind buying smaller gifts, more to open after all.

I will look into this! Sounds a good idea thank you

My 8yos main loves at the moment are Harry Potter, Owls and board games. There's lit of interesting board games in your budget. Her current favourites are Labyrinth, Monopoly, Cluedo and battleships. We are getting her the adult version of Scotland Yard (she has the junior version but finding it a bit easy now)

I've got dds 10 and 7, I would recommend a game too - they love payday, Harry potter cluedo, game of life, bugs in the kitchen. or small games- top trumps, exploding kittens.

mine both love a new bag - accessorize have nice ones or Primark. and a keyring.

cute stationary, youngest adores smiggle but we get similar cute stuff from the works/Poundland. little diary with a lock on or notebooks. smiggle had reverse sequin ones with initial on them.

scratch art kits or origami kits mine spend ages doing, there's loads of themed ones or just a basic set if you aren't sure if specific interests :)

My almost 8 year old has asked for 2 things she loved that my elder daughter just got for her 12th birthday. Both were from a relative from Amazon but you can find similar in shops.
Her initial with small light bulbs in it that works by battery. It is maybe 15cm high.
A light box with those letters and emojis that slide on the front to write messages, they are around £8.

She also loves lockable notebooks and gel coloured pens.

I recently got her a small fluffy backpack from Matalan that was £10 reduced from £12 and she has loved it.

lip balm you can get skittles etc flavours

fluffy socks

Thanks @thesunwillout just looked on Amazon and saw that the also have magical following penguins 🐧 Just ordered one for DD8. Very Christmassy and with a nod to the Mumsnet bollard!

thesunwillout · 09/11/2019 08:58

@Kilpitlees

I think this range of stationery and crafts looks really nice for her age - not babyish but not too grown up either. I’d check out prices on various sites though as I’ve seen the secret diary set from £16.99 to £22.99!

I’m forever recommending this scrapbooking kit. There’s loads in it and it looks more expensive than it is. You could maybe buy some gel pens to give with it.

WickedUncle is a good site for ideas according to age imo, also BrightMinds but again I’d check prices on others sites.

The best thing my 8 year old has had recently is an awful rubber pig that oinks when you squeeze it 🙄 she absolutely loves it - was £3 in the works.
She likes aqua beads, scratch art, still loves an LOL, and lockable notebooks.

Thanks everyone! Currently at work but will look into it all when I'm at home and hopefully get something sorted and that will be another person done Smile

Is she creative?
My DD is 9 and loves anything crafty- she has asked for tie dye sets after doing a t shirt on holiday- I’ve bought her the tybo range and some cheap white t shirts (fruit of the loom ones very cheap on amazon).
She also loves to read, so lots of books. Other things she has asked for are bath bomb making kit (got a lovely one from Costco which I think was around £10), soap making kit (smyths have some good ones), soufflé pens (Amazon & eBay), sketch book, some fancy wax melts & electric wax burner.

Stompythedinosaur · 09/11/2019 21:49

My 8yo dd is getting a Harry Potter training wand, it was around £14 on Amazon - might work for you?

As an alternative I am getting her Bop It which would be in your budget too.

Children's jewellery from Hurley Burley (you'll find them on Not On The High Street), all of their pieces come in beautiful boxes free of charge and with free delivery.

I have got one of my niece's a beautiful necklace from there (she's nearly 7) and it was Sterling Silver but under £20. They do quite a variety to choose from and jewellery is something which will last a long time.

Board games- Qwirkle and Mole Rats in Space
The Learning Resources stationery carousel with new stationery in it.
(This is for DS8 but he’s not very boyish).
