Any gift ideas, I'm really stumped this year. I was thinking of a gaming chair but after that I have no clue.
He is in that funny stage of growing out of toys but not into clothes/labels. He has been into lego but again doesn't seem to have much interest this year. He isn't into sports of any kind.

So if you have any ideas please send them this way as I also have his birthday to contend with!!

Are there any hobby-related gifts you could get?

Would he like tickets to something? A show, a concert, an experience day?

My DS is the same age (plus 11th birthday before Christmas) but he is getting quite into his branded clothing so he’s asked for Nike Air trainers, Hype clothing, a computer game and lots of books. He also still loves nerf guns and got the laser ones last year which he still loves. Would he like something like a remote controlled helicopter or drone? A magazine subscription? A camera or go-pro type thing?

Alexa?

If he’s been into lego in the past, what about nanoblocks? At 10 he should manage some of the easier sets.

He sounds similar to my DS who is now 14. When he was 9/10 he started getting really into origami. (And he still loves it) What about some origami books and paper? (Youtube is also a great resource for origami how to videos)

MP3 player and audio books were perfect for DS1 at that age.

At that age my DS would have liked:

  • Trainers or adidas casual shoes
  • A branded hoodie or hype T shirt
  • Headhones or gaming headset
  • A mini drone
  • Robotics or engineering kit
  • Bike wheel lights
  • Colour-changing portable speaker/ bedside light
  • subscription to First News or magazine
  • Young Driver driving lesson.

I have a ten year old and it’s hard! I’m going to get him a trampoline voucher so he can do clip and climb and trampolining over half term. I got one of those cars that drives on walls and have seen a rovie robot. What about anki drive? I’ve also brought two switch games and the entire Tom gates bookset. There’s also a new wimpy kid and dog man book coming out. I also thought about a chocolate fountain and giant bar of chocolate.

Great thanks for all the ideas. He still believes in Santa so trying to get things without quizzing him. He is in to animation but sketching side of things not the actual making of movies! So stickbots were left to the side last year - he did play with the characters though! Will look into origami.

Drone sounds like something he would be in to.

Have never heard of nano blocks, rovie robot, anki drive so will look into these.

Alexa he would love but he already drives me insane asking the kindle fire Grin
Mp3 player and robotics are also good idea for him.

Thanks all , more than enough to work with. Hopefully I squeeze this year out of Santa.

If he’s enjoyed lego before would he like a bit more challenge. These books are designed to work with Lego you already have to build different gadgets.
crazy action contraptions
Chain reactions
It’s a bit more of an engineering mindset than just mindlessly building a set.
The power functions also expand building possibilities. There’s a motor and lights (I’ve forgotten what else) so you can start building things that move and do stuff.
For more open creative building, I’ve got ds a box of 2x4 blocks as, for such a basic block, they’re shockingly rare in modern sets. Also got him big base plates last year which went down really well.

Obviously that might all be irrelevant if he’s not interested at all, but might be a help if he’s just outgrown the basic follow the pictures style of play.

A telescope?

Would he enjoy some kind of construction kit? This year we're getting DS2 a National Geographic wooden kit and GPs are getting him the Meccano Ferarri. We're looking at getting him the Haynes jet engine kit as well.

ShoppingBasket · 08/11/2019 23:28

Great, thanks, I think he is still interested in the construction side of things just outgrown ninjago etc side of things. I'm going to get him some merch of his favourite youtubers so just needed to pad things out and all of you have had great ideas. Thanks!
