How much do you typically spend on your DC

Making this post to satisfy my own curiosity.

There is no right or wrong answer - everyone is obviously welcome to spend whatever they wish on their DC, and I don't want anyone to feel shamed.

The reason I ask, is I'm on a FB group for LOL Dolls - SDD is obsessed. And I've seen several posts where children are being brought 100s of pounds worth of LOL's. When I say 100s one picture shared had £850+ worth of LOL merch for one child. Which to be is mind blowing.

So yeah, wanted to see what people typically spent. Wondering if we're being tight with her 😂🤣

I spend around £250 each depending what they want. Eldest has wanted a phone before it was £300 and sometimes youngest gets less depending.
I just buy from their list and add it up as I go along.
We also have couple Xmas days out but this year we are off to Lapland.
I don't get into debt for it I just spend what I have and nothing goes on credit card.

Ds(15) current iphone battery barely lasts 1/2 day now so we are thinking of a new one, we buy phones up front rather than contract as it works out cheaper overall, so it's going to be an expensive year for us.

00100001 · 10/11/2019 15:31

@BrokenWing why not just pay for battery replacement?? A lot cheaper! There around £20-40 max.

IPhone batteries are notorious for being utter shite in the long run. Have you thought about switching to a more reliable phone, like Samsung?

My DC are 1 and 4, and this year it's about £100 each, give or take. I know we could get away with spending less while they're still so young, and am expecting the budgets will rise the older they get. They also have generous family members who'll buy too.

marjoretta · 10/11/2019 16:01

It varies. Last year, our DC had phone upgrades, so this is our "off year" so will be cheaper. Dc1 wants GHD hair straighteners as her main gift. Dc2 is not sure yet.

But probably about £300 each.

However, they also get lots of essentials - clothes, pjs, pants etc in that... and when they like Calvin Klein / Victoria's secrets, it's not so cheap anymore!

discusstin · 12/11/2019 17:27

£300 each for DD13, DS21 and DS25.

Luxplus · 12/11/2019 19:31

@goteam remember not all kids gets loads from relatives. Our dds gets from their maternal grandparents, great grandmother and us but I'd never buy anthing just to bulk out or match a budget.

Xenia · 12/11/2019 19:38

£100 per child.

MrsPworkingmummy · 12/11/2019 19:45

I spend around £600 between the two children, but neither has a set budget and I don't worry about spending more on one than the other.

Spied · 12/11/2019 19:57

I've spent a bit more this year.
DD 8
Bike and accessories £160
Robot £60
Playset£10
Sweatshirt £40
Books £10
Stocking fillers £15
She also wants some earrings £20
DS 10
Bike and accessories £110
Xbox headphones and controller £90
Board game £20
Toy helicopter£20
Books £25
Toy figures £35
Stocking fillers £10ish
I spent much less last year around £150 each and much less when they were younger.

PhantomErik · 12/11/2019 21:03

Approx £200 on each DC (7 - 10yrs)

hamalooya · 12/11/2019 21:22

Around £600 on my dd and I couldn't care less at what anyone else thought. These threads always go this way. The landfill argument is new though. Everyone has the right to spend what they like big or small without the mummy shaming. Whatever the reason you spend it's a completely personal choice. I wonder how big the houses are of the people moaning about landfill are or how many cars they have or holidays they take etc. but it's ok because we don't buy to much Christmas tat Wink

RoryGillmoresEvilTwin · 14/11/2019 20:33

I probably spend around £350 including stocking.
I save all year because quite frankly I'm a pretty poor lp/student but I want to spend this on him.
He gets nothing all year except maybe £70 on his birthday and consumables like pens/paper and books.

My problem is that the stuff that ds likes now is tiny!
I've bought him 2 switch games and it's like 2 small envelopes but £100 cost!

Mumtobe193 · 14/11/2019 22:04

About £250 on my 4 year old, £80 on my 8 month old.

Suzie0003 · 18/11/2019 13:28

£200 on DS13, £150 on DS10 and £130 on DD4. They all have 10 presents to open each and they'll love everything they've got. They also get presents of aunts, uncles and grandparents so I don't feel the need to buy too much

pinkcardi · 18/11/2019 13:53

£60 each, aged 3 and 5. I'm a bit worried that not very much compared to these

Bogiesaremyonlyfriend · 18/11/2019 16:51

I've no idea! Bought nearly all of dds gifts but no idea how much I've spent- just got them what they wanted. Dd2 is 7 and asked for 2 lego sets which with bargain hunting I've got for probably around £70 dd1 is nearly 10 and she is getting a laptop which cost £480 then a few extras. I've tried hard this year not to buy for the sake of buying so little extras like socks etc I've not bothered with so I guess it will look like less than usual but probably spent the most. We are so lucky that we have a giant and generous family too so they will get lots of lovely things.

Arrowfanatic · 18/11/2019 17:53

I have 3 kids ages 10, 8 & 7. I budget around £150-£170 each.

I'll probably end up spending a bit less on my 7 year old, and full budget on my 8 year old.

We also budget £150 for a family gift which this year is 3 video games we all will play together.

Cherryrainbow · 18/11/2019 18:41

I'd say 100-200. Because his birthday is in October I find myself getting stuff from about august time if I see bargains. By the time his birthday is done and i know what ill give him then i might have a few bits aside for xmas. Then I get him to mark stuff in the smyths catalogue and pick bits I know he will want or play with.

Tbh I've been pretty pleased with what I've got him for Xmas this year within my budget. Now he is 6 his interests are narrowed down to spiderman, gaming and toy story so I find it easier to minimise the fads and be more thoughtful with what I've got him. I've made a real effort this year about looking at my finances and budget, and trying not to hoard, also to throw more stuff out in general.

Growingexponentially · 18/11/2019 20:04

@pinkcardi That's about how much I spend on mine at that age. I don't spend much more than that now and most of them are 13+ years old.
