Apologies in advance if this has already been asked a million times, but....... M&S or Waitrose for Christmas Food??

Looking to order some yummy food and have never had anything from either - what do people recommend please? Thanks 😊

Ah the age old dilemma! I've gone for Waitrose.... But I don't think you can go wrong with either really.

Ricekrispie22 · 04/11/2019 16:35

M&S sell some excellent lines which in terms of quality beat Waitrose but overall if forced at gunpoint I would choose Waitrose as they do offer a vastly superioe range of products and if you want something different in terms of food, Waitrose may sell it but M&S will not.

missyB1 · 04/11/2019 16:47

Hmmm. I think it's close but for me Waitrose are just a bit more reliable with their quality.

percheron67 · 04/11/2019 16:53

I choose from both (and Sainsbury, Tesco and Aldi/Lidl). I have only to cater for one but do a pick and mix to find exactly what I want.

KatherineJaneway · 04/11/2019 16:54

I always go for Waitrose. Never been dissatisfied.

Justapatchofgrass · 04/11/2019 16:57

Waitrose. M&S seem to have a lot of sugar and additives.

campion · 04/11/2019 16:59

M&S def. They're my go to every Christmas. Not let me down yet.
Waitrose fruit and veg can be a bit variable but otherwise pretty good, apart from their try too hard variations on mince piesHmm

M&S is on my list of companies who don't see women's rights as human rights, so they can stick their very overpriced food and awful clothes up their nethers till common sense is restored.

weebarra · 04/11/2019 17:12

Hear hear Understandable, and my 72 year old DM agrees!

Robbabank · 04/11/2019 17:33

Well with at least 3 active threads on MN today on M&S’s making their changing rooms mixed sex, I think we should all boycott M&S until they cop on and introduce 3rd space changing facilities if inclusivity means that much to them.

Even outwith their latest ignorant behaviour, Waitrose do better food.

AnUnderstandableNamechange · 04/11/2019 17:42

We did a Waitrose Xmas shop a couple of years ago (along with the M&S stuff), and the Waitrose food was excellent. DD (who dislikes turkey) had a rather eclectic Xmas dinner of muscles in white wine sauce, followed by meatballs and chorizo linguine, and chocolate pudding.

I can get a free range turkey crown from plenty of places, including Waitrose.

Redspider1 · 04/11/2019 17:43

Aldi

Redspider1 · 04/11/2019 17:44

But then I don’t buy processed, ready made stuff. I buy the ingredients and make party food myself.

AnUnderstandableNamechange · 04/11/2019 17:53

Aldi and Lidl are terrific. We have new stores near us, and they've been a revelation. Lovely chocolate and general ingredients.

Cheerfulcharlie · 04/11/2019 18:00

I ordered a lot from M&S weeks in advance and when I went to pick it up 2 days before Christmas they did not have most of it. Out of about 10 items 7 had been substituted (some with entirely unsuitable dishes as I had guests with dietary requirements) or just not available. I thought I was being very organised having ordered everything in mid november and it ended up being a bit of a last minute panic.
Waitrose for me this year!!

AnUnderstandableNamechange · 04/11/2019 19:13

I remember a lot of complaints about M&S food orders going wrong last year, right before Xmas. I think it was last year.

MrOnionsBumperRoller · 04/11/2019 21:20

Waitrose every time! I honestly can't tell the difference between the majority of M&S food and that of Sainsbos/Tesco, perfectly edable but definitely not special.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 04/11/2019 21:22

I was going to M&S Christmas dinner this year- wasn’t too sure when I saw what they were offering then went right off them with ‘fittingroomgate’. Stuff them, I’d rather order a Dominos.

PurpleCrowbar · 04/11/2019 21:35

No M&S given their stance on women.

Otherwise, I'm team 'it's just a roast dinner anyway!' - I like cooking & Xmas dinner is an easy one. But if you like stuff ready prepped, I'd be going with Waitrose based on the above.

Glenthezombiebattlingostrich · 04/11/2019 21:40

I'm not buying from M&S this year. Their attitude to women is disgraceful.

sunglasses123 · 04/11/2019 21:43

Aldi and Lidl..... not in the same arena at all! Why do people say things like this. They just cannot compare. If they were equal then M and S and Waitrose would be out of business!!!

tinytemper66 · 04/11/2019 21:44

Sainsbury's for me. There is no Waitrose for over 30 miles for me.

AutumnCrow · 04/11/2019 22:15

@sunglasses123 I think that may well be where M&S is heading ...

PollyFeather · 04/11/2019 22:23

M & S all the way for me

Redspider1 · 05/11/2019 17:51

Wouldn’t buy from m&s now anyway now that they are making women feel uncomfortable in changing rooms. My poor aunt got a terrible shock in there last week.
