Dance type present for 9yr old DD - HELP!

DD2 (age 9) has zero ideas of what she would like for Christmas. (Helpful as ever!) However she does love to dance and prance and cartwheel through life. She doesn’t do dance or gymnastics lessons and they really aren’t an option right now, but wondering if there might be some kind of dance or gymnastics style gift I could get her for Christmas.

Budget is £40-£50. We have an Xbox one (I think - maybe it’s a 360 - but I think it’s a one) and she has an iPad mini so anything compatible with those would be fine.

I know she’s done just dance at school but I don’t actually know what that is or whether it’s any good!

Any ideas???

Oh and it needs to not take up too much space as we’re currently crammed into a small rental house until we find the right house to buy and space is very much at a premium.

Might be not quite what you're after, as not an actual present to open, but if Liverpool or London are doable, I bet she'd love seeing an ENB performance of The Nutcracker?

They've got discounts for under 16s on certain dates/ number of kids to adult ratio etc., which meet your budget.

Or instead, for part of an actual main present:

She would love a show but we live in NI so options are def more limited.

Her twin is getting a metal detector (which is a very random, left-field request but I’m going with it just as soon as I can figure out what one to buy her) so I don’t want to just get a wee Xbox game - would def need something else to go with it. I like the idea of Just Dance because she’s loved it at school but I have to confess that I don’t actually know what it is. Blush Is it a game or is it just music with dance steps to follow along with?

I don’t think she’s be up for a leotard - she’s more likely to be into street dance style than ballet. (Although she does love to prance about a lot)

Ah! She's more contemporary/street dance type.

If classes aren't an option, maybe a one-off day workshop in acro dance (which would combine gymnastics and dance nicely!) or hip hop? Circus skills?

Or, if she'd rather watch than do, a free running parkour display performance?
(A bit niche, that one).

Though I guess any of the above might prove frustrating for her, if she had to wait until your next city visit.
Hmm, I'm really not being very helpful.

BTW, love the idea of a metal-detecting 9 yr old Smile

Pineapple dance wear?

Isadora2007 · 03/11/2019 23:04

Or a floor beam for gymnastics that folds up? Or a full length mirror and a disco ball light?

Maxineputyourredshoeson · 03/11/2019 23:42

I was going to say the floor beam. I bought one for DD2 for Christmas. Was around £20 from ebay. It’s 7ft but folds in half. We live in a smallish bungalow and my thinking was as it folds it can go in a corner or under a bed....

Floor beam is inspired!!! Definitely going to look into that.

She and twin are also getting a wireless Bluetooth speaker to share so they can stop creating WWIII when they borrow their older siblings one play music in their room. Mind you their room is so utterly tiny that they’d have to use the beam in the hallway I think as it’s the only place with enough floor space here.

I would love to get her dance classes - she’d love it - but just not an option at the minute unfortunately.

Autumn - it is the most random request and I genuinely have no idea where it’s come from! If anyone has any suggestions on a decent metal detector for a 9 year old I’ll gladly take them too!

I know it’s only small but a dance ribbon on a stick (I’m sure it has a proper name) was one of dd’s favourite presents last year. Maybe a good stocking filler?

My dd skates and loves the spinner she had for Christmas last year - google dance spinner. Smaller than a book in size you use it to practise balancing, spins etc. Not too pricey.
