Am trying to buy gifts that can be used this year and so far have a stash of Dr Botanicals and Molton Brown.
I have 2 student dc and don’t want to buy all the usual tat stocking fillers that end up unused in their drawers. Anyone have any good ideas?

Edibles - cakes, sweets, chocolates in unusual flavours. If they are students at uni you could buy a selection of condiments and herbs and spicers.

Drinks - flavoured alcohols or cordials.

Scented candles.

Activity vouchers - cinema, restaurant, bowling, ice skating etc.

Good Swiss pocket knife with cork screw and scissors. We have three, one in the car, one in the main back pack we take away a lot and one in the main suitcase. It had been a life saver more than once.

Voucher for regular supply of food staples, a friend sent her DS 4x a year an Ocado delivery with all kind of basics like dry goods, washing up and detergent liquid, cleaning supplies and lots of treats as well.

Audio book subscription? Socks? (mine don't generally last a year - if anyone can recommend any that do I am all ears).

You could do entirely food themed stockings, with nice cheeses and chutneys, chocolates, nuts and so on. You'd have to do the obligatory clementine and chocolate money in the toe.

However, thinking back to my student days, posh socks and a good book would also have been a good shout.

Alcohol always goes down well (if they drink!)
We have a packet of plastic straws that I am using up and once they are gone I’m buying metal ones that go in the dishwasher.
Also beeswax sandwich wrap.

Sock recommendation:

My bamboo ones from Thought are still doing well, 11 months on!

(Also, ethical clothing tends to be popular with youngsters, but may be beyond their budget.
You could always buy a 2-pack and split between them, to make it more 'stocking filler' price?)

Shampoo and conditioner bars and naice plastic free smellies from &keep

dementedma · 03/11/2019 17:52

Trying to be ethical here too. Adult dds are getting stocking fillers such as nice soap, shampoo and conditioner bars, miniatures of favourite booze, nice things to eat, stationery, essential oils, wildflower seeds( they both like gardening), crafty bits made locally etc

A voucher for Costa/Starbucks for them whilst at uni? Or a Nando's voucher etc??

PurpleFrames · 03/11/2019 18:00

I'm a similar age to your DC 🙈

I agree reusable things like mugs for coffee out, lunchboxes, cutlery etc are ideal for taking a cheap lunch or snacks to PT work.

Personally I've always loved candles in student years but also valued a cinema voucher as it would force me to treat myself before it ran out even if I was super busy

FeltCarrot · 03/11/2019 18:46

Thank you, some lovely suggestions, I particularly like the idea of Nando’s and cinema vouchers. Have also bought some beeswax wraps too.
