This morning I started drawing up a Christmas ‘to do’ list, and my brain isn’t firing on all cylinders- so far have randomly written ‘buy sellotape, labels and wrapping paper’, ‘write letters to Santa’ and ‘Practice new roast potato recipe’!

Please share your lists to help me get my thoughts in order!

Thank you

I haven't written a list but off the top of my head; 1. clean and check all the decorations are working. 2. Spring clean, rearrange furniture, move ornaments before we decorate. 3. Book asda Christmas delivery slot when they become available on the 13th of November. 4. Order Turkey and ham. 5. Start stocking up on sweet treats and alcohol. 6. Buy christmas pyjamas and jumpers. 7. Jot down important christmas dates such as xmas school concerts, xmas markets, parties.

I need to do a perpetual list for every year so following - off the top of my head -

Write Christmas cards & post (want to get those done before 1st December)

Refresh wash all Xmas linen

I’ve written a list of all the people I have to buy for and mark them off when bought - then another column for wrapped

Mark all the school Xmas activities in calendar (some start this month)

Make arrangements with friends for the Xmas school holidays - arrange meet up days

Book Tesco online shop (when dates are out)

Book for nails/hair to be done over Xmas

  • Buy Christmas toilet rolls and kitchen rolls.
  • Clean out and run down freezer
  • Declutter and clean kitchen cupboards and drawers.

Have a look online at The Organised Mum. She has a Christmas countdown. Very helpful and might give you some ideas.

This is my basic list. I like to spread the effort out so it starts in September but obviously quite achievable in a lot less time by less lazy people.

September- October:
Gift shopping
Clear out and replenish store cupboard
Buy extras of bin bags, tin foil, parchment, toilet roll, cleaning supplies, hand soap, kitchen roll - spread cost over October/November weekly shopping.
Organise diary for parties/entertaining.
Book chimney sweep

November:
Organise freezer. Eat up older stuff. Make space for Christmas food. Batch cook meals for entertaining and freeze.
Write and stamp cards.
Check, and wash/mend linens, cutlery, glassware, China, serving dishes, baking trays.
Book Christmas appointments.
Begin wrapping
Sort out Christmas jumpers
Sort out what we’re wearing on Christmas Day.
Finish gift shopping
Stock up on fuel
Buy non-perishable Christmas food spreading cost across weekly shopping.
Deep clean the living areas
Attempt to declutter playroom and dc’s toys.
Declutter and donate

December
Decorate
Do as little shopping as you can get away with and enjoy cosy days and nights at home.
Cleaning focus on bathrooms, guest rooms, fridge, oven.
Wash guest bedding, towels etc
Make beds
Put together a box of scissors, screwdriver, batteries under the tree for Christmas morning.

  1. make list of presents and buy only from this, no impulse purchases, no landfill.
  2. absolutely do not buy wrapping paper before I have checked loft to see what was leftover from last year. Always discover loads when I get the tree down on 24th Dec.
  3. write cards and actually remember to send instead of finding in work bag on 27th Dec
  4. make list of yummy food and book supermarket delivery
  5. make several copies of my Christmas wish list and leave around the house
  6. stock up on Prosecco, tia Maria and crisps.
  7. get tree down before 24th Dec.
  8. dust off ancient monopoly set.
  9. spend lots of time on Pinterest looking for ideas to create winter wonderland in living room.
  10. choose at least 3 books to read whilst hiding in the kitchen spending hours slaving over a hot stove.
