Help, I've lost my Christmas mojo!

I normally think about what to buy people most of the year. Last few years have restrained myself and started in September. It's now November and I am still struggling to think about gifts, hosting a pre Christmas event, and the whole season, which usually officially kicks off for me in October half term. But not this year. I can't get excited, nor my other family members who like planning early. Shops also seem half hearted. Has the Christmas spirit left the building or is it just me? Please advise how to get back my Christmas mojo!

How about getting a glass of wine and looking through some Christmas cookbooks? Something pretentious and aspirational like Nigel Slater usually helps me. No planning at this point just reading for fun.....or look at some table setting ideas on Pinterest - both usually get me into the spirit in a no-pressure way Smile

Yesterday I was youtubing Christmas carols (Kings.) and reading these boards. Felt very festive. Xmas Grin Maybe listen to a few carols yourself? OR watch a Christmas film, or bake some mince pies?! I hope you get your mojo back soon.

I wouldn't fight it - if you're not feeling it, you're not feeling it. A 'quiet' Christmas might be what you need this year and that's fine.

It’s early days yet. Why not give it a wide berth for a couple of weeks and just tune out Christmas altogether?
It’s ok to have a low key Christmas. When I was treading water with 2 under 2 I just did all my Christmas shopping in half an hour in a bookshop. Not the most thoughtful perhaps but quite adequate.

Thanks, the wine is a good start! I think you're all right, I'll go with the flow rather than force it, maybe I'll get more in the mood later on. Just disappointing as I love the prep and anticipation usually.

Carols always get me in the mood, but I don't usually let myself listen until 1st December (often when making first mince pies). Guaranteed to give me Christmassy shivers are the likes of King's College choir on YouTube, with e.g. In The Bleak Midwinter, See Amid the Winter Snow, Away in a Manger, etc.

You might find that you enjoy Christmas more if you don’t get excited too early. I sound like my mum saying that but it’s true!

Update, I went round Aldi yesterday and felt excited with their Christmas offerings and now feel ready to watch a Christmas movie this week! Better late (for me) than never!!!
