DD(2.5) loves books, but we’ve been given so many I don’t buy them, and instead we’ve been going to the library. However for Christmas I’d like to buy her one really nice book / book collection. Ideally something that she could enjoy now but won’t grow out of straight away. She loves the Julia Donaldson books but we have quite a few of those. Her current favourite is the tiger who came to tea, but she hasn’t been too fussed on the Mog book we have. We have stacks of the run-of-the-mill book people 10 for £10 type of thing, and I was wanting something a bit more special. I considered Mr Men but she’d probably want to read the whole lot every night. She has several Beatrix Potter stories but hasn’t shown much interest in those so far. Can any of you lovely folk give me some inspiration?

You'd have to look on eBay but the perfect Christmas book, with a charming story and beautiful illustrations is The Church Mice At Christmas

Definitely Kipper, and also Wibbly Pig, another Mick Inkpen classic. My children adore them, and I love reading them out loud

Another vote for the Jolly Christmas Postman.

The girl and the dinosaur is a lovely recently released book

A Dr Seuss Collection - We have the 10 book box set, or you can get a 20 book set. They are fabulous books to read together and she's be able to read when she's older.

Jolly Postman (and Christmas version - is better in my son's opinion!)

Nutcracker Story Orchestra book

Thanks again for all the suggestions. I’m spoilt for choice! There are some that I read as a child that I’d forgotten about and some I hadn’t heard of.

I loved the jolly postman when I was little and I’m planning on that one in a year or two - she’s a bit rough sometimes and I don’t think I could cope watching all the lovely letters getting trashed Smile. I’ve been looking at the suggestions and I think I’m going to struggle to stick to my minimal book buying plan. I’m going to see which are available at the local library to try to narrow down my choices.

Percy the park keeper - especially one snowy night fur Christmas!!
Shirley Hughes always really good as well - although I still cry at Dogger every time!!!
