DNephew will be 13 months at Christmas so will only just have had his birthday. DB and SIL have mentioned him having absolutely loads of toys and clothes as they have a large family who will be v generous at birthday and Christmas.

So I thought for Christmas I would have get him some book sets, especially Christmas ones which they he can then get out every Christmas. So I ordered

  • Box of 10 Spot books
  • 4 Axel Scheffler Farm Books
  • gift bag of 4 Christmas books
  • Stickman
  • lift the flap Santa book
  • touch and feel seasons book

I spent almost £30 (our budget would be £40 tops) but now they've arrived it just looks like nothing 😢 is this a rubbish gift?

I used to buy books for all nieces and nephews and think that you can’t beat a gift of words.... and I didn’t spend anywhere near what you have.... try the book people next time as you can get massive book collections for £10-15 so real value for money (like over a £100 worth) but I would have loved to continue gifting books. I only stopped because someone moaned her kids just ripped them up.

My DC would have absolutely LOVED this! And I would have been chuffed to bits to receive ♥️

Never too many books. Especially if he has lots of toys already. My kids loved books from a very early age. 18 toddler books is not excessive as a present from a close family member. It's not like she's bought him 18 War and Peace sized books!

If you wanted to buy anything else, you could buy little characters/props for some of them.

I always buy books as gifts.

Great gift and should be well used over a number of years. Lucky boy.

This gift would be amazing in our house! I'm sadly just parting with some books (going through the bookcase today 😭) including the gruffalo, my youngest is 10 and feels he's moved on 😱😱😱
Books last such a long long time and are just perfect. I love the thought you've put into your gift.

This is a great present! And very generous! My DD was 7 months last Christmas and we asked family for books, she's 18 months now and constantly getting books out to look at so they are some of the few things she got for Christmas that she is still using

Cindefuckingrella · 07/11/2019 08:00

Definitely give the Xmas books early so he can enjoy them for December. I find it quite annoying when my children get Christmas books or Christmas crafting kits etc on Christmas Day. They end up going away for next Christmas and are sometimes get forgotten about!
It’s more than I would buy, but a lovely present nevertheless.

Sounds like a perfect gift to me. My son got Stickman when he was a toddler and still loves to read it and he's now seven Smile

That’s a fantastic gift. My DS request their Christmas books to read throughout the year (DS4 took Spot’s First Christmas with him on our summer holiday this year!) so don’t worry about the comments saying they will have limited use!

It’s a perfect gift. I don’t understand how one can have ‘too many books’ to be honest. My 13 month old would be delighted because at that age he loved bringing me a book and plonking down next to me (he’s nearly 3 and still does)!
