This year dd and her dh are hosting Christmas. Ds and his wife are coming over from Dubai and it will be ddil’s first UK Christmas (they have been married 24 years). We have given dd £100 towards food and, as a Christmas present for dd and her dh we have bought a case of wine with glasses and some Italian treats.
Thinking about it now it feels as though this is a gift for everyone not for dd. I still do stockings and Christmas pjs but feel bad that dgc, ds, ddil will all have personal presents to open whereas dd won’t. Shall I buy some extra small gifts? We can’t afford anything big and they are adults in their forties.

If you want to get her something maybe some little toiletries she likes to pamper herself after all the work of hosting Christmas. Or a box of chocolates?

Yes I’d buy just a few more bits and bobs to open- like a diary or gloves or pjs and toiletries. Budget £25-30 could still get you a decent wee pile.

I think I would be nice for her to get something just for herself. What does she like? Reading, cooking, sports, beauty, animals??
Something relevant to her interests rather than just a gift for a female relative. I am mid-forties and would not be interested in random toiletries or candles.

You could save money by not bothering with PJs. Most adults would prefer to choose their own, I reckon.

Then use what you save to buy dd something for herself. Hard to say what, as we don't know what she likes but here's a few suggestions anyway!
Books e.g. the Dishoom recipe book, Nigel Slater's beautiful new Autumn and Winter vege book, Bill Bryson The Body, or a beautiful edition of a book she loves
Cashmere scarf
If she likes a bath, a selection of posh bubble baths eg Neals Yard stuff is lovely, or Clarins
Voucher for a massage

I would probably buy something personal for her to open on Christmas day. Her favourite perfume maybe?

Hmmmm I see what you mean. Personally yes I’d get a small gift too - doesn’t have to be expensive maybe something like stud earrings if she wears jewellery and then something for him? Or you could get a voucher for somewhere they both could go to? Something like to do?

She loves Issy Miyake perfume, reading and outdoorsy stuff so I could get some personal bits for her. I will do that and maybe a photo book of her children. Yes. Thank you.

If you do this don’t you need also something for your son-in-law? Otherwise it looks like he is the one without any personal present.

If she likes outdoorsy stuff, the best present I got was a power bank which doubles as a small hand heater.

I won’t leave him out!
Just ordered these and some multi colour flame pine cones for wood burner and a book I know he will like.

Should I buy more?
