Plantable cards: is this acceptable for me to give instead?

To friends/family in the '£5 small gift exchange' category.

Am trying to reduce waste/ be more eco-friendly this year.

Would you feel hard done by to receive a really nicely designed card (£4, A5 size) with large detachable robin you plant (top quality wild flower seeded paper, no glitter etc.)?

Bit concerned they may see it as an only slightly more decorative packet of seeds and be offended!

Would be grateful for your opinions.

Personally I'd think it was a bit rubbish and chances are it wouldn't get planted.

duckling84 · 29/10/2019 14:40

The problem I can see is does everyone have a garden and would everyone want to plant wildflower seeds? Otherwise I think it's a nice idea.

Any gift that you give in multiples is thoughtless

Think of a bespoke small item for each one. It is much easier to do that with a £5 budget than a £50 one.

I open cards, read and straight into recycling and so I wouldn't even see it,

I like the idea but I feel like a card is additional to a gift and not something I’d count into the cost of a gift so I’d see it as a lovely card and probably think, where’s my gift? Blush

@CampfireZen do you have a link to them?

Floralnomad · 29/10/2019 18:11

I would think it was a waste of £5 .

SaveMeBarry · 29/10/2019 18:34

It’s not everyones idea of a present but for those on your list who do enjoy gardening these look a bit more gift like I think. There are different ones to attract bees or butterflies.

CampfireZen · 30/10/2019 07:38

Thanks so much for everyone's input. I suspected it might be the case.

Back to the drawing board.

Yes they do have gardens.

SaveMeBarry, those may be a good alternative, actually. Thanks.
Even if they end up hijacked by small kids excited by chucking 'flower bombs', I guess the end result for the garden's the same!

Justapatchofgrass,
"Any gift that you give in multiples is thoughtless"

They'd be mailed out to 5 recipients who don't know each other, so they wouldn't be aware at least!
Not given out in same workplace/to everyone at a get-together type scenario.

But I take your general point.
Usually, I do go to lengths to find special gifts for each individual, but trickier this year as each of them has been adamant they'd rather we do presents that are used up.

Tighter budget this year = postage costs more of a factor too.

Ditto homemade edible treats. Also pointless, as all are households with a lot of cooking/baking going on the whole time.

These were the initial ones I saw:

Pack of 6 works out cheaper.
