DP and I have been offered a holiday cottage over Christmas so we've decided to spend the holiday just the two of us. I'm really excited and would love to make it special but I'm a bit stumped about food - I'm from a fairly large family so catering for two is a new one for me for a special day at least. We've decided on beef wellington for dinner on the day but I'm not sure what would go with it? Red cabbage definitely but I'm torn on the potatoes - would roast pots be too dry? Dauphanoise with the pastry on the beef might be too rich?
Any help much appreciated!

Sliced potatoes baked in oven in stock are delicious with beef Wellington. I just slice them up, pour stock over them and cook in the oven.

What cooking equipment will be in a holiday cottage?

winter ATM, a small oven and a two ring hob. They're renovating so that may change, but that's what I'm assuming will be there on the day.
Luzina thanks! That's a great start

Possibly I should have titled this thread as 'How the blood hell do I cook Christmas dinnner with a small oven and a two ring hob?'

I'd do a one tray roast. For just two a nice free range chicken or fillet of beef. Followed by a cheese board and lots of red wine. Enjoy 🎄🍷

Cook for four! Honestly- just plate up four meals, cover two in tin foil, let them cool then refrigerate and eat it again on boxing day. Second roast dinner with extra Gravy is wayyyyy better than the first. I always have extra stuffing. Have fun!

IKEA sell plug in hobs, they're absolutely essential kitchen arsenal.... Hang on I'll find it, it's called TILLREDA. 39 squid and gives you extra cooking space..

wannabe you're absolutely right, that's boxing day sorted!

Has it got a microwave? I’d do really creamy mash and a red wine gravy type sauce then reheat them on the day.
