Does your dc have one of these toys? Any good?

DD has her birthday quite close to Christmas, so she's gone through the new Entertainer catalogue and written a combined list for both. As we know, not all toys are all they are cracked up to be. Looking for some honest reviews on these toys if your dc has any of them as there are only so many YouTube toy reviews I can withstand before I start pulling my hair out. Also, what are peoples opinions on kids having more than one similar type of toy. For example, dd has expressed she most wants a Poopsie Surprise, but she already has a slime factory thing. Am I right to be trying to vary her toy box, or do you think it doesn't matter?

LOL doll w/hair
Poopsie Sparkly Critters
Myla the Magical Make Up Unicorn
Kindi Kids
Enchantimals Ballet Cuties
Ritzy Rollerz Dance n Dazzle Spa
Capsule Chix
Candylocks
Hatchimals Pixies
Robo Alive Cute-Seas

Well I'm not familiar with most of the items on that list but I can confirm The Enchantimals are lovely, I know a few little girls who collect them and they do seem to be good quality and have plenty of play value Smile.

I'd lean towards not buying very similar toys to what she already has, especially fad items (anything pooping is a fad, let's be honest!). That's hard to do though if it's something she really really wants, I know!

Big yes to varying her toy box and for that reason we never stuck rigidly to dc gift lists. That's not to say we ignored what they most wanted but we taught them to ask Santa for just one or two specific items, books and "a surprise". I think if you hand a young child a catalogue they will of course be drawn to the all singing, all dancing overpriced toys of the moment which are simply the ones the manufacturers want to create a huge demand for. They're not necessarily worth the money and often they're a 5 minute wonder.

I'd go with one or two "WOW" gifts from her list and then choose things that you think would interest her or encourage eg her enjoyment of art & crafts or reading or robots or whatever.

@SaveMeBarry Thanks for your reply. I do a similar thing - choose one or two main 'toy' type presents, and the rest is other things which I think will interest her to vary it a bit. She has a very large family, so she's never short on anything anyway. She understands that she won't get everything on the list, and santa generally puts one of the smaller items on the list in her stocking with the rest of it a surprise. That's how I've been doing it up until now.

I definitely wouldnt buy anything "poopsie". The unicorn last year was very poorly reviewed and anything "poo" related is tacky and has minimal play value.

We dont allow slime in the house due to the concerns a while ago.. so it's just been a flat no!
Dd8 has Enchantimals and loves them. She has a tree house for them which was good value. She also has LOL dolls and they get lots of play too.
Shes never been into normal dolls or Barbies though.

Lc2006 · 20/10/2019 19:22

My DDs love their enchantimals and LOLs. Ones asked for kindi kidz this year so will give that a try. I didn't get sucked into the poopsie stuff last year and I'm glad as all friends that got them really regretted it. They love the little hatchimals but I never went with the big versions as had been warned after they'd hatched kids lost interest quickly. Don't really have any experience with the rest.

My 3 year old loves enchantimals (we have 10 of them) and I do think they are lovely little dolls

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 24/10/2019 06:32

DD (6) got an enchantimals house and a few of the dolls for her birthday last year and they still get played with all the time. They're good quality for the money compared to LOL dolls I think.
She has been bought a LOL doll before by a relative but she wasn't that bothered and I won't be buying more as I thought it was overpriced tat, with lots of tiny plastic bits that are bound to get lost and trodden on.
She used to love the Hatchimals Colleggtibles, collected lots of them and played with them every day but recently she seems to have lost interest- it's all about the Barbie's and Enchantimals now.

@Lc2006 How old is your DD? Kindi Kidz seem to be pretty high on the list in terms of what my DD really wants, but was unsure if they were too young for her? Keeping reading stuff that suggest they're aimed at pre-school children. Don't want to get one if she'll have grown out of it in 6 months.

@lonerdottierebel She's just turning 6

flower3305 · 27/10/2019 18:25

We brought a myla unicorn last year and was really unimpressed hugely overpriced for what it does

user1573334 · 27/10/2019 19:52

I'm afraid the entire list seems to be made up of very faddy toys. Nothing with much open ended play value at all. I think handing kids a toy catalogue means they are guaranteed to request a multitude of faddy items though so not really sure what you can do now. I wouldn't want to buy more than one item like that.

MyDcAreMarvel · 27/10/2019 19:53

My dd loves her candy locks, worth it for £10 I think.

Lc2006 · 27/10/2019 20:57

I would say the enchantimals have been worth every penny. 2DDs 6 & 8 have played with them a lot. They don't have any of the houses just the actual dolls but they have been used a lot.

MyDcAreMarvel · 27/10/2019 22:55

Kindi Kindz are pre school aged dolls, they aren’t aimed at pre schoolers to actually play with them.
