What would you buy a 10 month old baby for Christmas? He is number 2 so has all the clothes he could need (although I will be buying some nice JoJo leggings for the winter) and to be honest he has loads of toys too. Stacking cups, musical toys, countless soft toys, walkers, balls, little cars, an abacus. DS1 was spoiled and we kept everything!

DS1's smart trike is broken so I'm thinking of getting a new one for DS2 for his birthday, but other than that I can't think of anything I could get him for Christmas. Equally he won't care!

Get one new thing, just for him, something that DS1 didn't have. Other than that don't bother, he won't know, and I am sure he will gets lots of stuff from other family members.

Does he have his own room or do they share? If his own you could get some bit for his room. Wooden letters to go on his door, a night light, picture for the wall etc. Or, you probably have it but it wasn’t mentioned in your list of stuff you already have, but what about a ride-on or scuttle big type thing?

Thanks both.

Yes his room has lovely things in which we did buy new eg framed prints, to make up for the fact that none of the furniture was new!

I think we will just get him the bare minimum then get a smart trike or micro scooter trike for his first birthday.

What about starting him a collection, Lanka kade animals maybe, lovely but only about £2.50 each and look great on display as well as being played with

are all the clothes the right size for season? Would he need a nice pramsuit if your other son’s old one is the wrong size?

Or maybe some kind of keepsake? Not sure what but something like a personalised blanket or special teddy that is his rather than handed down?

Bath toys always need replaced.

How old is DS1? Will he notice if DS2 doesn't get too much?

I'd wrap up some of his favourite snacks, a couple of books, some bath toys, a new soft toy, a balloon maybe?

Oh yes bath toys is an excellent shout!!! Thank you.

Clothes wise the seasons almost match up, but DS2 did get a pram suit and coat in 9-12 or 12-18 when he was born from MIL (she bought a load of stuff in bigger sizes) so he's pretty set on the clothes front. We will get him some leggings, and I know he'll get clothes from relatives too.

Teddy wise he's got some lovely ones of his own, a Jellycat panda, lovely soft elephant and zebra, which either we bought for him when he was born or gifts. We really have everything!

DS1 will be just 4, I don't suppose he'll pay much attention to be honest. I already feel that he might think DS2 gets loads when the latest toy/apparatus eg jumperoo, stacking cups etc comes out of the loft, as he probably thinks they're all new toys. I always point out that they were his when he was a baby!

At 4 he'll notice more than you think so I would try to make sure that Ds2 has a similar amount from Santa, even if it is DS1s stuff wrapped up or in his pile. As you say, DS1 wont remember and at this point it's okay to not tell him :) DS2 won't care either way.

tempnamechange98765 · 15/10/2019 07:16

Thank you! Yes I was saying to DH last night we definitely need to make sure DS2 has stocking presents as DS1 will for sure ask about that! I don't think he'll notice if DS2 only has a few under the tree presents though. So I think I'll stuff DS2's stocking with bath toys and books! And then keep the "boring" (according to DS1) things like clothes for under the tree.

We always had things that they got every year such as bubble bath, a new flannel, toothbrush, socks, pants, swimshorts etc. Fills up the stocking with useful stuff and you can adapt each item for any age group as they get older.

DreamingofSunshine · 15/10/2019 12:09

Can you buy a pass for a local farm/zoo/soft play?

Or I'd wrap up some of DS1's old toys for him.

thenightfury · 15/10/2019 13:11

Even if DS1 does notice that DS2 has less under the tree, just say that Santa brings less for babies as they are smaller and he needs room in his sleigh for bigger presents for bigger children. We told my little sister this when our ds was born last year! Worked a charm
