Turkeys

Has anybody ever ordered a turkey from M&S to collect? Are they ok, and worth the money compared to frozen supermarket ones?

Where else does everyone get them?

Used to get one from the local butchers then when that shut down started getting frozen from Tesco. I get a large one so the frozen are much easier on the purse strings but contemplating a fresh one this year. Although the frozen ones have been perfectly fine and enjoyed by all!

We get a turkey crown or butterfly from the local butcher. No faffing around with bones and supporting local businesses at the same time

We get ours from field and flower - we save throughout the year to buy high quality food as a treat for Christmas. Yes I know how that sounds but we love food!

Yes, for several years I ordered a free range one from M&S. Always fine.
Now however I just go down first thing on the 23rd (they usually open very early then, we have a shop close by) and grab the size I want off the shelf.

Should have added, I buy free range for ethical reasons but can't honestly say that we notice any real difference in the taste from the cheaper, frozen ones I used to buy. . I seem to remember a turkey 'taste test' on TV - several so called food experts were asked to give verdicts on half a dozen - and one of the cheapest - maybe frozen - came out best. They were all mortified of course.

Personally I think a lot of it is down to how you cook it - and the resting afterwards, preferably upside down!

Plus of course you do need to allow loads of time for a frozen one to thaw slowly.
