Christmas Eve boxes/bags

I started doing Xmas eve boxes for my children a couple of years ago. I put in jammies, slippers, fluffy socks, chocolate, face masks for the older girls and a small plush for the younger kids. I also put in a small bath bomb and a book.

I'm intending to do it again this year but was wondering who else does it and what do you put in your boxes/bags? 🎄😊

Magazine or christmas book for younger kids
Choc or sweets or popcorn and movie to watch
At start of month a fluffy christmas blanket and christmas bedding

My baby will be about to turn 6 months this year so she's just getting her pyjamas and a book, but as she gets older it will also include her favourite hot chocolate in a sachet so she can drink it once she's in her pyjamas in bed listening to the new story.
I always got pyjamas in mine and that was it, same as my partner, but we wanted to add the extras as a way to calm down before she goes to sleep as we were always too hyped up for Santa to go to sleep 😂

Box will be done after bath time as well so no point for us adding bath things or anything like that

Pipandmum · 13/10/2019 16:55

Sweet idea but nope never done it never heard of it. My kids got winter themed onesies once but had them before Christmas.

Signifyingnothing · 13/10/2019 16:57

No chance. We have other traditions in Xmas Eve which don't involve spending more bloody money. The kids' closest friends come round and make cookies listening to the Muppets Christmas carol soundtrack. It's cheap, I don't have to do anything and I get biscuits.

I like the idea of Christmas Eve boxes, but I feel like Xmas PJs should be worn throughout December, not just on Xmas Eve. Feels such a shame not to get your wear out of them. 😆

CupCupGoose · 13/10/2019 17:10

I never get Xmas themed pj's. I just buy new 'normal' pyjamas to go in the Christmas's eve box.

RaeCJ82 · 13/10/2019 17:12

See I like a Christmas themed PJ....I also like Christmas themed, brushed cotton bedding throughout December too! 🤷‍♀️

DreamingofSunshine · 13/10/2019 18:24

I don't think they have to cost a lot. DS gets Christmas pj's which I buy secondhand on Facebook and a new Christmas book, but me and my two SILs are doing a bit of a swap so that they get each others books.

I'm a meanie who doesn't let toddler DS have sweets and he's allergic to dairy and gluten, so he gets a satsuma in his box, and homemade reindeer food (oats in an organza bag leftover from wedding favours). I'm going to look online for free Christmas colouring templates and put those in, along with some of DS' felt tips. That could work for older children?

I saw Christmas temporary tattoos on amazon, they could be fun?

CupCupGoose · 13/10/2019 18:32

We do Christmas bedding too. Always put it on at the beginning of December. I'd love to do Christmas pj's too but I've always given the new pj's on Christmas eve so I feel like they'd be wasted if you know what I mean.

My dd will be 17 months this year so she will get new xmas pjs every year, and I will buy a nice xmas book, santas magic key and personalised santas plate which I will reuse every year. As she gets older I will add a special Christmas cuo and hot chocolate, I dont think you need to go mad on it, it takes the fun out of having presents the next day other wise

Goldenphoenix · 15/10/2019 07:29

I do a 1st December box instead to declare the start of the season. I put our favourite Xmas films in, and all our Xmas books (keep them hidden the rest of the year so they are novelty). I put the Xmas bedding on and pop into the box hot chocolate, marshmallows and a few treats. Also a Christmas colouring book for them each. Means they enjoy everything for longer, they are excited enough on Christmas Eve so don't need anything else then

LoonyLunaLoo · 15/10/2019 07:38

I’m not being a Christmas Eve box purist but it sounds like you have a lot in there already! DS has new PJs and a tube of chocolates and that’s enough for me when he’s going to get a whole load of other presents the next day.

lostlalaloopsy · 15/10/2019 09:45

I've been doing this for a while now. My dcs get new pjs - I already have them as I found fab matching ones in the M&Co sae last year!! They also get a new toothbrush, bath bombs/bubble bath, snowman soup and some reindeer oats. Our elf leaves it all for them before he flies back to the North Pole.

I also do a 1st December box for their advent calendar. It also has their Christmas fleece blankets, pillows and books but this is the same stuff we use every year!! This year I'm going to buy my dc a special Christmas decoration in memory of my Mum who we have just lost.

TheScruffyDog · 15/10/2019 11:54

DS will be three this year. New PJs on Christmas Eve has been a thing in our house since I was tiny. In our Christmas Eve box will be;

New PJs and slipper socks,
Twas the night before Christmas book,
Reindeer food (just oats)
Probably a bath bomb or something.

TheScruffyDog · 15/10/2019 11:54

Ooh and the father Christmas plate!

Starlight456 · 15/10/2019 11:59

I used to put in a craft activity that we would do Christmas Eve.

Now it’s generally a book, sachet of hot chocolate and new pair of pj’s ( not Christmas themed.

One2Three4Five6 · 15/10/2019 12:27

I do it, I do a box for the 1st of Dec, it contains craft stuff for the lead up to Christmas, sweets/popcorn to eat while we watch Xmas films after school/work
Hot chocolate
Pyjamas
Sometimes books, sometimes other extras.

It doesn't have to cost a lot.
Last years was my most expensive as I bought new bedding, which i won't be doing again any time soon.
This years will be a lot cheaper as I already have most of the things I'd ever want to put in one.

When DD no longer believes in Elves/Santa it will just be one box full of all the things we have gathered over the years, rather than a 'new' box brought by the Elves each year.
It adds to our lead up to the day (which I like more than the actual day tbh)
Winter days all cosy under a snuggly blanket, with hot chocolate and Home Alone on the TV is my favourite family activity in December.

snowmanshoes · 15/10/2019 12:58

I wasn’t going to do a Christmas Eve box this year but think I am now as it’s the first Christmas we’ve had in our house for several years.
I’m doing the following;
I’ve ordered a camper van gingerbread kit from Lakeland
Hot Chocolate bombs for girls and pina colada ingredients for us
Donut tray and recipe book and ingredients for home made donuts which will also be for our pudding Christmas Eve and possibly breakfast Christmas morning if any left!
Chocolate covered popcorn

As you can see it’s consumables basically but I’ll put it a hamper we already have with their stockings and it just adds to the traditions and excitement.
