Christmas craft tree decoration - need advice

Hi all
Everyone I've asked in real life either can't choose between the two options or will not tell me what they think looks best.
My DC (3 and 1) are only little but the last couple of years I have used their fingerprints to make tree decorations (elves and snowmen so far) however this year the only design I can think of (sleep deprivation is awesome) is to do coloured baubles (their fingerprints) on a ceramic tree.
Here's my dilemma do I paint the tree green first or leave it white ?

Hopefully the picture shows a couple of examples

Thank you

Do one of each per child . One green and one white. 🙂

I prefer white but I think it will depend on the clay/salt dough as to whether it looks good or not. Unless you intend just buying white ceramic trees in which case I'd definitely go white. If you paint it green first, you run the risk of muddying the bauble paint.

Depends on the rest of your decorations, I think. If your theme is more traditional, I’d go with the green. If it’s more modern, I’d do the white. And if it’s eclectic, I’d do one of each. Smile

Thanks all,

Ideally I'd want them both on the same decoration (plus mine and my partners). The ceramic tree will be store bought as i need way more practice before creating anything like this.

Just thought i normally make 3 (one for each set of grandparents) so i could paint one and leave one white then decide which looks best Grin

I prefer the green.

Where do you buy the ceramic tree from?

Tinkersaur · 11/10/2019 08:17

I normally buy them from either Hobbycraft or Baker Ross. You can get lots of different ceramic designs.
Although there's a pottery place near me that can do handprints etc if you wanted a more professional approach

I like the green. But you will probably need two coats and let them dry well. Maybe leave a spot slightly smaller than the fingerprint white so the colours will be vibrant.

White will be much easier though. So I’d probably choose that.

A couple of coats of pva after will give it a sheen and protect the paint.
