Ideas for telling 6yo DD we are going to Lapland?

DH and I have decided to take DD on a 'once in a lifetime' trip to Lapland at the end of November. We are planning on telling her at the start of November so she gets used to the idea, but want to come up with a fun way of revealing it to her! I don't think we want to do a letter from Santa inviting her as we're worried it might creat confusion for some of her friends as to why they weren't invited.

Any creative ideas? Grin

PS - I'm also super excited myself!

How lovely! She'll be so excited! How about incorporating it into a mini treasure hunt round the house with some Christmassy clues to follow, and then you could put a picture of you and DH holding a sign to say where you're off to, in a snow globe like this? www.funkypigeon.com/gifts/snow-globes (less than a tenner)

Have you planned lots of activities to do in the dark? There are only
4 hours of daylight in late November in Lapland.

I went to Lapland on Christmas Day as a child when I around her age. We were woken up early Christmas Day and presented with a posh letter from Santa saying how good we had been and we were invited to go and visit him. Honestly was the best trip of my childhood! How exciting for you and your DD to be going, it truly is magical and I can still remember going even though it was 20 years ago.
I wouldn’t worry about other children re giving DD a letter. I think it made it more special thinking it had come directly from Santa.

We did Eventriders Scenario for our dc’s, but friends had an elf visit with the news. Lots of the resorts have elves dotted around and also at the airport- so that tied in nicely. Some people we know got special tickets made up and sent through the post.
There’s loads to do ‘in the dark’, it’s more like dusk really. The only issue would be that in November last year there was no snow in some parts of Lapland. With this in mind I would not big up the husky sledging etc before going as many weren’t operating last November. Hopefully this year it will snow earlier and you’ll be fine though, especially if your in one of the most northerly resorts.

I did the invite from Santa as we went for new year. It did cause confusion because they couldn't understand why friends didn't get invited. They are also hoping for another invite this year! However it was an amazing adventure and loved every minute.

Thanks for the ideas! I like the snow globe. GrinYes, I read about the lack of snow last year, so we are keeping everything crossed. They had their first snowfall of the season there yesterday so hopefully this year will be better.

We have planned a day trip to Santa Park (which is indoors) to meet the big man himself and then have booked a few other things. We won't talk up the snow too much! It's been easier than expected to book it all ourselves rather than doing a tour. Can't wait!
