Christmas Eve Box & Stocking fillers for toddler?

ReverseGiraffe · 09/10/2019 14:41

DS will be 17 months old at Christmas. The original plan was to just get him his big present and maybe some clothes/books and not a lot else.

However, DD is 7 and always very worried about her brother being included (so much that she wanted to put things for her DB on her own Christmas list!) So I'm having to rethink a bit.

I'm still not going massively over the top, but I'm a but stuck on what to actually put in his Christmas Eve box and stocking. We don't really give him much chocolate/overly sweet foods so the hot chocolate, popcorn etc that we put in DD's box is out already.

I did Christmas jammies and a christmas book. You could put socks too and whatever little healthy type snacks he is allowed.

Caspianberg · 09/10/2019 14:46

For stocking you can just add bits he will start using around that time.

New pair gloves and winter hat
Some slippers
Crayons and basic colouring book
Small book
bath toy
Small individual chocolate buttons
Satsuma

Christmas Eve box

New PJs
Baby Christmas DVD
Bath time book
Mini pack of chocolate buttons?

Christmas stocking

Bath duck(s)
Bubble bath
Flashing Toothbrush

Pack of bubbles
Carton of juice
Cereal bar
Pack of raisins/toddler crisps

We put the same things in the Christmas Eve box each year and same for each child. So Christmas PJs or onesie, hot chocolate, reindeer food and a Christmas film. Maybe some raisins or a fruit pouch if you don’t want him having a hot chocolate?

My toddler will be the same age at Christmas and I’ve pretty much finished her stocking already! She has:
Mini Peppa Pig books
Bath squirty toys
Water flutes
Threading apple toy
Bubble bath
Chunky crayons
Little coloured scarves
Silver reflective blanket
Just need to add a treat and maybe a soft toy of some sort and then done!

A few independent retailers do mystery boxes for xmas eve I know Tia rose treasures and yes bebe were looking at offering them.

I have also ordered knitted dinos from www.www.tiarosetreasures.co.uk they have lots different knitted toys if you sign up go rewards scheme before ordering you can use your bonus points on your order. They offer free delivery too.

Plan is dino will sit in top of stocking looking cute

Not ton topic at all but I'm amazed at all these people who still buy dvds in 2019!

Caspianberg · 10/10/2019 09:30

@thatmustbenigelwiththebrie - me too, we haven't even got a dvd player to play any on

LightandShadows · 10/10/2019 09:33

We use consoles to play DVDs.

BiddyPop · 10/10/2019 11:08

I bought a DVD a few weeks ago because the film wasn't on Netflix or Amazon and I want to watch it a few times (I often re-watch tings I enjoy).

Many streaming services don't have what you might be looking for if you want specific series or films - like Netflix used to have Downton Abbey but not any longer - although they recently added the original version of Dirty Dancing.

BiddyPop · 10/10/2019 11:15

For a toddler, things they need anyway:

Small sized book, especially a seasonal one, but even a Mr Men, Thomas the Tank Engine, hardbacked book etc.

Crayons or pencils and a mini-colouring book or plain paper notebook

A Christmas plastic glass (older DC could have a plastic Christmas mug) to reuse every year for December (DD is still using hers over 10 years later, and it gets put out for Santa annually also despite us all knowing she no longer believes, the ritual is still important! Xmas Grin )

Or on a similar line, an age-appropriate water bottle for bringing out and about. Could get an age-appropriate one for older DC also.

Packet of "their" treats/snacks - raisins, dried apple, liga biscuits - whatever it is they like.

Hair bobbins etc, new socks, hat , gloves, ….useful small items of clothing

rubber ball or small car or small doll etc

Places like Ikea and Primark sell smaller fleece blankets in nice colours patterns that could be folded up small and take up space

Some DCs love the simple things - I know I've seen people here talk about a large box filled with balloons (already blown up) being a great hit with toddlers!

Small soft toy

BiddyPop · 10/10/2019 11:30

I meant to add that if you have a collection of something already from older DC, is there something small to add to it for younger DC? Like if you have Duplo or Playmobil, get toddler something new of their own for playing with the existing sets.

Or some new food or utensils for a toy kitchen

a new outfit for a doll they inherited from older DC etc.

a new car to add to the existing collection

farm animals or zoo animals

different shaped cutter (could be a cookie cutter - and use later for baking not just playdoh) and a new tub of playdoh

Shantotto · 10/10/2019 16:33

You can get an organix selection box for Christmassy themed healthier snacks.

ReverseGiraffe · 10/10/2019 19:55

Thank you all for some really lovely ideas! I'm excited to get started Grin
