Hi everyone,

I'm starting to think about Christmas eve boxes for my 3 children. (8, 7 and almost 5).

I've ordered some lovely wooden, personalised boxes which we can use every year. I've bought Christmas pyjamas and cosy socks, and I plan to put in hot chocolate.

Looking for other ideas so wondering what you put in yours?

Thanks!

We have one box for the whole family. Matching PJ's, a film, popcorn and hot chocolate ingredients. Last year I added in Christmas games (,orchard toy sets from Aldi).

DeanImpala67 · 08/10/2019 21:00

We have a family box that has a film, pj's for kids, snacks, and a good family board game to play in it. Suits us perfectly, and I've just benen browsing Amazon for a game for this year!

Yes the book sounds good too - thank you! Might have a look at "the night before Christmas".

A Christmas craft set each, easy to get age appropriate and lovely and Christmassy and quiet!

83maddog83 · 08/10/2019 21:07

Ooh yes, the craft sets sound like a nice (calm) idea, Haha!

Christmas EVE boxes? I thought Christmas Eve was about anticipating the excitement of Christmas Day? Confused

Trewser · 08/10/2019 21:23

Presents on xmas eve??! Just a way to get people to spend even more money.

LL83 · 08/10/2019 21:26

I put in ingredients to make reindeer food. (Sachet of porridge, sugar and sprinkles)

WeeMadArthur · 08/10/2019 21:27

A candy cane or gingerbread biscuits?

Shitfuckoh · 08/10/2019 21:29

Ours is going to be a family box this year too.
Pj's for all, cosy socks, Bath bomb, notes giving choice of film for them to pick one (so based on a couple from Sky Cinema) movie snacks & hot choc. Reindeer food. Santa plate & always night before Christmas book.
Usually depends on what plans we have Christmas eve in regards to whether there's a craft set in there - if they're getting it late afternoon there won't be as it'll be bath in to PJ's & watching film before bed.
May put a game in this year (plans depending) as the bigger 2 are more game friendly now they are that bit older!

TeuchterTraveller · 08/10/2019 21:30

We put in the same stuff every year - The Night Before Christmas book, a plate for Santa's snacks, reindeer food, new Christmas PJs or slippers (if they need them), some chocolates and a DVD. Costs very little.

I do a treasure hunt to find the box too.

FastAway · 08/10/2019 21:32

I’ve just bought a nice Christmas jigsaw..... I will probably do it with them earlier in the season as 3yo goes to bed fairly soon after getting the box but it might be nice to do with slightly older kids in the evening. Otherwise I just do PJs, a bath bomb to share and chocolates or snacks for a film.

horse4course · 08/10/2019 22:00

Do you really need more work and more money and more presents? Isn't there enough to do with prepping food, wrapping presents etc?

83maddog83 · 09/10/2019 06:26

I dont see Christmas eve boxes as work Confused. I love shopping for all things christmassy and will spend my hard earned money how I choose.

Thanks everyone, some good ideas there!

Someone always complains about how you do christmas presents. I think it sounds fun!

blackteaplease · 09/10/2019 06:53

We also do a family box with new reindeer food, our Santa sign, Pjs, movie, snacks and hot choc. It arrives when we are out for a walk and we use it to settle down for bedtime. It's not rely an extra gift, just part of the ritual of Christmas.

I have sone sticker books/Christmas stories but they don't get looked at so I have stopped those

Rainbowx2 · 09/10/2019 07:45

I have the usual pjs, hot choc, Santa plate, book, DVD am going to add a game this year was looking at Santa rooftop game in smyths

NoWordForFluffy · 09/10/2019 07:53

We have a sturdy cardboard box which I think is a large gift box, but that's what we use anyway! It has the sacks, stockings, plate and a book in it, same ones each year. Then some pyjamas too. They want to watch Snowman and Snowdog before bed this year, so that'll go in too. And that's it!

DaveTheGhost · 09/10/2019 07:57

Personalised cookie plate, hot chocolate stick, reindeer food, snacks, pyjamas, shower gel.

christmascrazyalways · 09/10/2019 08:26

Christmas bubble bath!

Youseethethingis · 09/10/2019 09:04

I don’t get the negative comments about Christmas Eve boxes - most people seem to put in low key stuff they would have been getting anyway, plus things that come out every year like Santa’s plate and a favourite Christmas bedtime story. It’s not wildly extravagant stuff and a lovely family tradition!
Disclaimer: I’m more of a 1st December box person myself as then you get more wear out of Christmas pjs and time to do Christmas crafts, make cards or decorations etc.

Ilovemyhairbeingstroked · 09/10/2019 09:14

I have stopped doing these now as I was putting a lot of effort in , and my kids couldn’t give a shit ! They are older now. However when I did them I put in ;
Xmas pjs .
I used to order hot choc with marshmallow cone things .
I also used to order some home made Xmas cupcakes from a local lady .
Xmas bath bomb .
Some sort of cheap Xmas craft /colouring
Xmas edition CBeebies , Disney junior etc comic.
A new Xmas dvd
A new Xmas book that we hadn’t read .
It used to mount up 🤦‍♀️ Was fun preparing it until my kids got older and became more ungrateful !

Trewser · 09/10/2019 09:39

If you enjoy doing them and your dcs love it, then you do you.

Mine are older and Xmas is much nicer now IMO. More about actual giving, actually slowing down, less about commercialism, the money and effort goes on lovely food and more extravagant meals than usual. Christmas boxes come from the same place as elf on the shelf, just another thing for mothers to do!
