Can I split the delia recipe in two and make two smaller cakes?

The above really....

We don't eat a whole cake and my dad would like one this year so I was thinking of using the delia recipe and splitting it in half to make two smaller cakes....will it work?

She says to use a 20cm tin so do I use two 10cm ones....and do I cook it for half the time?

I have though I can’t remember what quantities I used or how long I cooked it for. In terms of cooking length I suspect it will be a bit over half but have a prod after two hours. You’ll need to wrap them well with brown paper (as she advises) in the oven to stop them burning as there will be more surface area to cake (I think?)

The area of your 20cm tin is 314cm2.
To get a tin with half the area you need a diameter of 14cm, not 10cm. Unless you want a deeper cake.

Definitely cook it for less time, I'd have a good look about half way through.

It will work brilliantly!

Ooh, wonderful thanks.

I had a suspicion it wouldn't be as easy as just halving everything....!

Of course you can do two smaller cakes, that's just halving the recipe.

It will probably take more than half the time though, 10cm cakes might be deeper as PP said above but not really a problem as you will be cooking to when it's ready rather than a specific time so I'd just check at roughly half the time and assess how long it needs
