Micro Maxi scooter

Looking on very with the 20% credit back offer.
My sons nearly 7 so not sure how much use he’ll get before he feel ‘too big’. I wish I’d just got him one originally instead of a cheaper model that didn’t last long. But we go most places by car so I didn’t think it’d be worth the money. I still don’t really but he wants a scooter and it’s seems sill to but another cheap one.
So on very (once discounts applied) I can get a normal blue maxi scooter for £90, old style colour just plain blue. Or for £14 extra, the deluxe version which is basically the same but has some coloured branding on it and looks a bit nicer.
I like the nicer looking one, and think my son will too as it looks the same as what his friends have. Ideally he’d want the led wheels but they don’t have those in blue on very. So would a good compromise be to get the newer model? Or is it a waste to pay £14 extra for some coloured branding?

DS is 7 and has the foldable one in petrol blue. He and I love it. Uses it to go to school a few times a week though. Wouldn't dish out that much money otherwise. It is much much better than any of the cheaper ones we've had before though.

Would he still want a 3 wheeled scooter? My daughter has just turned 5 and wanted a 2 wheel for her birthday so went for the Micro Sprite.

tinysnickersaremyfavourite · 03/10/2019 13:29

I agree with the pp, my boy has been on a two wheel scooter since he was 4.

Imustbemad00 · 03/10/2019 13:38

No he hasn’t got the coordination for a 2 wheeled although can ride a bike. All his friends have 3 wheeled. I think he’s too lazy for the 2 wheeled. But that’s why I’m hesitant to spend too much as he might not get years of use out of it.
My daughter was on her 3 wheeled until 9 or 10

My DS had a 2 wheel Micro Scooter Sprite for his 5th birthday. I personally think the 3 wheeled ones look babyish.

Are you near a Decathlon? My DH (who spends far too much time on the internet researching) says they're very well know for good quality scooters, in hindsight we should have got one from there.

They have all the scooters on display to try, he may well get on ok with a 2 wheel on or see a particular one he likes.

Imustbemad00 · 03/10/2019 21:43

I literally don’t know any kids in my sons primary school that bring 2 wheeled ones. They’re all on micro scooters.
I guess I can try him on a 2 wheeled one and see but it’s not what he’s after.

On the 2 wheeled ones they can’t glide around in the same way as the 3 wheeled can they? You know how they don’t take much effort to make them go and then they can just glide around without much steering effort. I might be wrong but I just view them as more awkward.
I imagine him moaning on a 2 wheel that his legs are aching ect. He’s lazy like that.

I'd get the maxi micro 3 wheeler. I thinm you'd get plenty of use out of it for a good few years yet. Dd still uses hers, she's 13! Seriously they are much more fun, a smoother ride, robust, much better than 2 wheels. A lot of Dds friends had the 2 wheelers but when DD had a go of them she realised how much better the 3 wheeler is (plus, you can let go of it , run off and do something else, without worrying about having to lay it down on the ground!).

tinysnickersaremyfavourite · 03/10/2019 23:10

We have a decathlon and a micro 2 wheeler. I'd buy another decathlon one. In fact I probably will this xmas as DD has outgrown her 3 wheeler.
I ride them back from the school run regularly and there's no discernable difference in ride, but the handlegrips on the decathlon one are actually nicer to hold than the micro.

Why not wait for the Black Friday deals?
I got a micro mini scooter on a Black Friday / cyber weekend deal last year.

OctopusNow · 03/10/2019 23:14

My DS has a Globber (?) are they really uncool? Blush

user1573334 · 03/10/2019 23:17

You mention your daughter has a three wheeled, was it the Maxi, and do you still have it? I have my DD (now 12) old Maxi in the garden and I've priced up replacing the deck and handle bars and it is significantly cheaper than buying new, so that is what I am doing as one of DD6's Christmas presents, as typically, she's only just taken to her Micro scooter and is too big for it now. Keep your eye on Smyth's and Halfords as I think they both do offers on the Micro brands, though I don't know if they sell the Maxi's.

minipie · 03/10/2019 23:26

DD is nearly 7 and has poor core strength and coordination for medical reasons. She has one of the new Micro Cruisers which is two wheeled but much easier to handle than the Micro Sprite. (We went to john lewis and tried out both two wheeled versions, she said the cruiser was much easier than the sprite). She found the cruiser a little tricky for a few days but after that, no harder than her previous maxi micro.

I think a two wheeled scooter is better for her physically as she has to balance more and yes it’s a bit harder work but will benefit her in the long run. Might be the same for your DS? Appreciate the cruiser will cost more though so may be out of budget...

minipie · 03/10/2019 23:28

Ah just saw he won’t actually use it much, in which case there wouldn’t be much physical benefit from a 2 wheeler rather than a 3 wheeler!

Have to say I’d be inclined to get 2nd hand or refurbish his sister’s one if he’s hardly going to use it...

Don’t still have his sisters. That was gone years ago. I’ve ordered the 3 wheeler, I sneakily asked him which one he would put on hos Xmas list and that’s what he said, he actually picked the cheaper one! It’ll work out to £88 with the discount, and as you said the resale value is pretty
Good. I can replace the wheels with led ones for £20 if he asks.
