'Vintage' coloured lights

Can anyone help? This year I'm planning 2 trees, one white and one brightly coloured, glass ornaments etc.
However the colour of the lights always annoys me...... I remember a thread a while back suggesting you can transform normal lights into those pretty 80's colours I remember from childhood. (You did this perhaps with nail polish) is this a thing or have I finally lost it. HELP!

Noma or Pickwick (on Amazon) do brand new, but vintage looking coloured fairy lights. They’re on Amazon and I have about four sets of them. They’re gorgeous colours but safe enough to leave on for hours at a time.

I’m not sure how well nail varnish would work.

EBay is also your friend for vintage or vintage style lights.

Lights for fun have lots of coloured Christmas tree lights including the vintagey ones in this link. They have lots in their sale section too. There is a code for £10 of £75 from them but I've also seen a £5 off £40 or £45 when I was googling discount codes, or and topcashback too!

Ooh thanks for the links! I need new lights this year and LEDs make me sad!

70sWitch · 01/10/2019 21:42

@GinFuzzy. Just fyi. The lights in that link ARE leds.

If you want proper push in bulb lights for a soft vintage look. You can still get them (although usually shadeless as they are new) on ebay and Amazon. Or eBay do have genuine vintage lights often with original shades.

I also dislike leds for coloured lights. They're too harsh and they never have pink ones. I may be too invested in this. Grin

We have new but vintage looking ones and they are still too bright.
We bought some old ones but I didn’t feel confident about the fire risk. There’s definitely a market out there for nicely coloured new lights. Why do LED have to be so harsh ?

I got some of these last year from a garden centre. I got two sets but only one worked. Which was always the problem in the 80s! A garden centre might be worth a shot?

I'd buy them. In the meantime - where's the nail polish? Grin
